Apparently this is cause for feather rufflage in Alberta.

You're looking at this the wrong way... This is nothing more than a great opportunity for independent restaurants and other franchises in Canada to steal a whack-load of market share from Earls.

Quite simple really, the cost of some signage indicating that they proudly serve Canadian beef and look to support Canadian farmers. Ironically, Earls has done all of the marketing work for them

I'd rather buy Canadian everything. Beef is high on the list but there are dozens of Canadian agricultural products that come from shyteholes like China that we are still able to produce ourselves.

A few hours ago, I took my son out to his Great Grandfather's fruit farm. He is doing a school project of the criteria for growing soft fruit orchards, the situation, soils etc. The same criteria apply exactly in the Okanagan, the Niagara region, the, Annapolis Valley, etc. So, here we were looking at a sour cherry orchard, just coming into bloom and I told him the bad news. Nobody buys Canadian cherries, anymore. We import them from every point of the compass including places like China who are probably systematically poisoning us with their crap.

I'm barbequing lamb, tonight. Canadian lamb. How many if you buy it from the New Zealanders?

Rednecks of Alberta thought they could push around big business and they did they pushed their opportunities to Kansas. Earls said they need two million pounds of hormone free beef a year for all their restaurants and Alberta is just too small for the job

This is only the beginning, the new term is social license and the young people
don't want any of the additives anti bionics or hormones or anything else. I have
some grand kids who say if they can't wait for the European deal so they can buy
No GMO grain products and dairy hopefully. Thie whole thing could backfire on us.
Parts of the world can claim or not have anything to enhance food or increase
production. I have been in discussions where people don't care if we feed the world.
They care about their own dinner that's it.
We are going to be ruled by social license soon,
Its all marketing and science has nothing to do with it. Older folks and vested interests
won't shop there but the ones who do are the young and the future. Consumer demand
driven by niche marketing that is the future A&W EArls and some others are only the
beginning. When the Arctic Apple first appeared we opposed it not because of health
concerns because of market concerns and those who produce GMO products will face the
wrath of consumers and numbers are growing the trade deals will see outside products
without them in it and consumers will buy because there will be increasing NO GMO labels
we are in a changing world and now is the time to act.
The March against Monsanto will increase and its a major movement. No I am not part of
that but I see it gaining even the voices of the young in our family say "Lets just drive them
out of business" Farmers have to pay attention to the voices of negativity

"The company said it tried to source beef from Alberta, but there wasn’t enough of a specific product to meet their supply needs.

“We did intensive research and testing for over two years trying to use a Certified Humane beef from Alberta, raised without antibiotics, steroids or growth hormones, of which there are some great suppliers in Alberta — and we did use it in our Edmonton and Calgary locations as well as our Flagship locations across Canada for well over two years,” Earls culinary development team told Global News in an e-mail.

“However, there was (and is) simply not enough in Alberta to meet the volume we use and those we tried were unable to consistently meet our supply needs, not even a portion of it.”"

Kinda feel sorry for this woman. She needs to say the obvious to quell a province of mouth breathing blow hards.

Notley defends Alberta beef, urges quick introduction of certification

She said she hoped the national roundtable on certification of organic meat swiftly develops a certification process “that confirms what we all know to be true — that Alberta produces great beef, and that it’s the best meal you can order in any restaurant.”

Notley didn’t mention the Earls restaurant chain by name, but said that it’s important to support the agriculture industry, which is still doing well despite the economic downturn in the province caused by the collapse of oil prices.

Vancouver-based Earls announced Tuesday that it would no longer serve Alberta beef.

Earls said it plans to serve only Certified Humane beef — meaning beef raised without antibiotics, steroids or added hormones, and slaughtered according to the specifications of an animal welfare expert.

The chain says Alberta ranchers can’t produce sufficient quantity of the product.

All this sounds much like the bullsh!t "certification" for forest products the ecotards came up with. It has nothing at all to do with good logging practices but everything to do with good paper shuffling. As long as you followed the plan all is wel despite flaws in the plan.

Yup.

It was only a matter of time before one of these imbeciles opened their mouth about it.

Don't you just love it when conbots support protectionism.

It's as if they don't really understand anything at all.

Yiur stupid is showing. Again.
