I am not sure totally how the marijuana trade is handled on our border with Canada, but smuggling is taken seriously down here. (Heavy fines and stiff jail sentences.) Drug smugglers use every means possible to get it into the States, from just carrying it to using specially built submarines. I also have no idea who in official places would like to see the decriminalization of marijuana especially so it could be taxed. The only thing it would accomplish would be destroying its monetary value, the smugglers and growers would just grow something else.

As long as there is a market someone will supply it. Smuggling pot into a repressive regime now is no different then when my father and many of his friends smuggled booze into the same repressive regime during the failed experiment with prohibition. Which proves that those that do not learn from history are bound to repeat it.

Yup,legalize it. 9/11 pretty well killed exports to the states from BC anyways, tight border security meant lots of bc bubblegum buds for Canucks!
I knew a few boys that had grow ops and they shut her down a year after 9/11 as it killed their trade to the states.
Interesting enough is I found allmost everywhere in Nunavut they smoke and it's $50.00 a gram there.

It is already happening, and has been since prohibition. The drug trade is now a drug war, far worse than anything Al Capone did. We won't be doing anything different, except ending or limiting one source of drugs.

JACKPOT!!! If drugs had no value, crime would plummet.

Crime would not plummet, the pushers and growers would just move on to another product. Criminals are criminals and will do anything to make money.

You dont have to legalize it, make it a small offense like a slap in the hand for someone carrying up 7 grams, and nail whoever caught with more than 7 grams with trafficing charges :)

The only problem I see with legalizing pot or any other drug for that mater is that the largest criminal organization in the world will be raking a huge cut off the top. All in your best interests of course.

Legalize pot and regulate all drugs. Can't stop it. The govt needs a cut to reduce the deficit. You should be able to go into govt "drug stores" and buy organic pot say, shaded, from the north side of mountain if you wish. No more toxic drugs, it's safer.

If you legalize a drug, the criminals who produce, smuggle and sell the drug become law abiding citizens who pay their taxes, just like Joe Kennedy and Samuel Bronfman.

While I support marijuana decriminalization, I also support regulating and taxing the legal production, distribution and sale of marijuana.

I am against children having legal access, just like alcohol and tobacco.

I support drug education programs in the school system which educate children regarding drug use and as a result discourage consumption.

I am against driving under the influence.

I am against advertizing or promoting consumption.

I hope you don't mean the kind of "education" that the kids are getting now through DARE. They see through that bogus nonsense. The cops who peddle that crap should be ashamed. It probably causes more kids to try drugs than prevent.

Drug education should be based on science. By the time a child is in grade 9, they should know the risks associated with the most commonly abused drugs, including tobacco, alcohol and prescription medications.

I also support the government officially discouraging drug use through education and to some degree taxes (up to the point where dealing contraband becomes lucrative).
