Driver speeds into Times Square pedestrians, causing 1 death

A speeding car crashed into pedestrians on a sidewalk in New York City's busy Times Square on Thursday, killing one person and injuring at least a dozen.

Police said it did not appear to be an act of terrorism.

I'm sure the victim is considerably comforted by the fact that this wasn't Islamic terrorism. "Why, now that I know I was killed by a general-purpose a-hole, and not a Muzzie, I hardly feel dead at all!"

It was reported on the news tonight that it definitely wasn't an act of terrorism!! I was amazed and call bull shit! All races and religious sects commit terrorism, including Caucasians and Christians. When you deliberately scare people, THAT is terrorism!

If cars were registered a
like guns and owners had to pass a test before..........oh wait they already are. So much for registering weapons.

There's no test for owning a car.
There is for driving one. I don't know about the backwoods where you live but in more civilized parts of the world one must have a license to register and license a car. Also in may areas it is illegal to have an unlicensed vehicle in your yard.

It's wonderful that you are beginning to dimly comprehend the difference between owning and driving.

Best line of the day. A Canadian calling Washington DC a "backwater!"

I mean, I realize the U.S. doesn't have thriving megalopolises like Moose Jaw, Medicine Hat, and Yellowknife, but we're fond of our villages.

As far as I know no license or registration is needed to drive a vehicle on private property in ontario!

True. Thanks for pointing out the comment was even stupider than I thought at first.

Washington has some very nice government buildings, monuments and parks, and a few nice neighborhoods.

And massive slums.

Every hotel and tour guide tells you to never walk anywhere and never drive anywhere without specific directions, cuz if you wander or drive into the wrong area or down the wrong street you'll leave in your underwear, if you leave at all.

I'm not sure how that is related to whether or not Washington is "backwoods," but you're not wrong.

Ever since I got here, the most amazing thing has been how fast you can get from "good neighborhood" to "dangerous area." It can literally be just a matter of crossing the right (wrong) street.

And the slums aren't that massive. Heck, city's only got about 650,000 people. New York has slums bigger than all of DC.
