Sure there is something wrong with it. Ontario is the second-wealthiest in terms of resources. While they were harvested and processed here, Ontario thrived. Now, the companies who harvest those resources are foreign-owned. For the most part, they are processed in foreign lands if they are harvested at all.

One way to correct that problem is by not buying any products made in China being they are very poor quality and we may see the label MADE IN CANADA come back.

I agree with you LW that is a problem, truth is also to buy cheap products from China with contamination is like getting caught between a rock and a hard place. Dammed if we do and dammed if we don’t....I suppose these are the affects of integrating in a global economy.

Partly ... and you can blame the big company who wants to corner the market ... and you can blame the shareholders who demand more return on their investment ... and you can blame the bankers who charge the interest ... and you can blame the safety councils who demand the workplace be safe and clean ... and you can blame the government for taxes levied and duties and for anti pollution roadblocks ...and you can blame fuel costs for the cost of shipping ... and you can blame the advertizer for making it a necessity ... and you can blame the consumer for buying into that crap. Just think.... The product may have started out as a profitable cottage industry....

Did Maple Leaf Foods in Edmonton think about that when they went on strike and the plant was closed and all other plants saw that the company was playing hard ball and they fell in line?

Curiosity begs...was a disgruntled employee in the main plant in Toronto responsible for the listeria outbreak and consequent illnesses and deaths?

I'm not saying I agree with it, because I don't. I am just saying why the unions are the reason for the problem.

You can thank unions for pensions, stat holidays, worker's comp, benefits, etc. etc.

Been a union man all my life.......and there is a world of difference between them.

in the armoured car industry, management consistently risks the lives of underpaid workers, attempts to force them to drive longer, take risks, travel through blizzards, ......unions are an absolute necessity..........I've been in trucks (armed) for over 24 hours, and had the manager call and insist I come back to work shortly after I got home........

Depends on the company, the union, the industry......

Some (a very few) unions are spoiled.

Many tens of thousands of other workers badly need unionization.......

If you want to point fingers, point them at CEOs, like the one at AGI who made 161 million US last year, while driving the company into the ground.

At one time unions served a purpose. Not any more. You can blame the CAW for the mess the auto industry is in now... They screwed CPAir.
