Anyone who needs to denigrate others in order to make himself look better, or to feel better about himself, does in fact lack confidence.
Right on, Jack.

It was already changed from Dominion Day to Canada Day long ago. Reporters and any type of media love to stir up crap. I'm sure it was a question put out there by someone whose brain was turned off for the day.
I guess I hit a nerve out there. I got a red (black) mark for my comment. Newbie. I only see one on this page.

Judging by how some people seem to take offense to how "center" ("US English" as opposed to "correct English") is spelled, there's definitely a lack of confidence in some.

Anna you brought back some "oops moments" in my first years in college down here....

I kept putting "U" in words which weren't used in the U.S.

The scorer of one paper who had a tweaky sense of humor (humour) said "there is an abundance of "u"s in this work - are you fond of "u"?????

She gave me a fair mark however and didn't count misspellings as some of those sorry sods would have!

Back to the topic query though - Vive la difference! I think Canada and the U.S. should have it's different quirks and should enjoy pride in their nations no matter
how odd they may seem to others - you can never have enough pride in the country you live in and love. If you don't - you are missing a great part of life.

Actually, I look on the "u" in certain words like "colour" to be somewhat useless, so I can't see including them when I write. I write "color". It's an issue of practicality with me.

Great! I like people fair people.

I have pride in my planet. A few humans keep denting my pride in it, though. lol

I make sure I use words like colour, neighbour, honour, etc. Not only does it add a bit of class to the language, but it annoys the hell out of Americans.

clearly you have no idea about Saskatchewan..

I know some things about Saskatistan. It's rectangular, it's capital sounds like part of a ladies anatomy, people there wear watermelons and it makes the trip from Winnipeg to Calgary longer than it should be.

Scrap it.

Canada Day is all about ego-stroking for Ottawa and frankly its an embarassment for our country, especially when international viewers saw the televised screening of "Canada Day in Ottawa" (better termed "Celebrating Multiculturalism in Ottawa").

The 2010 Olympics should have been a model but I suppose that's because the Olympics were organized by us British Columbians; whereas, the Ottawa Canada Day was probably organized by your typical combination of pseduo-leftist intellectuals and "alternative lifestyle" types... which of course appeals to them but sadly not to remaining 80% of the country
