I have black out liners.
Why? That says that you would be up earlier naturally when you body wants to be up if you had uncovered windows does it not? It is more enjoyable to work in the cool of the morning, come home early, relax a while during the heat of the day, have a light snack and a beveridge then go out and have your "fun" activities and hit the sack when the sun sets.

There is no energy saving, at least none that credible companies are willing to report.
DST is just for making an extra buck-which means energy expenditure. If it weren't we wouldn't do it!
You are right. There aren't any savings at all but there are indeed distribution advantages. Remember ENRON and the California blackouts from distribution manipulation?

Good Morning Spade! I wanted to be the first to wish you a very Happy Day Light Savings season. I know you love this time of the year so much and I did not want to miss such a special occassion in your life.:p:p

Ahhh DST, Canada's answer to China's "Great Leap Forward."

Is that today? I haven't turned on the TV today yet, so I hadn't
noticed. I guess I should go buy a handful of 9v batteries for the
smoke detectors that aren't hardwired in then. 8O

DST makes a lot of sense down south where they don't get the later sunset. On June 21 (the longest day), the sun sets at about 8 pm in Los Angeles. The extra hour helps the working man do stuff in daylight hours.

Don't buy the pre-millennium detectors. Apparently there's a glitch... Ron, I like watching the little green light!

Such as golfing in the desert!

The sun is just passing over the N-S meridian now. Should be noon! My watch must be over an hour fast!
The real noon is at around 2:20PM in Regina. I think we could crank it forward another notch but having light at 11:30 PM is pointless unless you are a teenager and sleep the best part of the day away. in summer I get more work done by 9AM than most do all day and completely miss the heat of the day which is nap time when you have nothing else to do because it's done already.

The one time we have daylight-savings time is in the summer when we don't need it at our latitudes. DST (double or triple) might make sense in winter. As far as an energy saver, it's a feel-good politically-simple action that accomplishes nothing.

Furthermore, two or three weeks after the start of DST traffic accidents increase.
I'll ditto that.
I have an idea I may implement at some time when I don't have anything more pressing to do: it's to tote up the cost of having the maintenance people in public buildings running around with ladders and whatnot twice a year in order to change clocks.
Personally I think it's nothing more than a pain in the a$$ and a waste of money. There's a community across Kootenay Lake from us that rid itself of changing clocks around twice a year and are doing just fine and have been for many, many years.

Because I have always needed a dark room to sleep. I never sleep during any daylight hours unless I am sick. If my room is light at 4:00 A.M., I am awake at that hour. My work place is not open at that hour so it would do me little good to be there. My sleep is probably far more important to them at the hour I do rise then if I got up at 4:00 and was too tired to do my job. Beyond the age of about 10 yrs., I doubt that I have ever gone to bed at sunset. I don't get to choose my working hours.

I HATE Daylight Savings Time

I have hated it from the first minute until a few minutes ago when I once again set the clocks forward. My cats get all confused about their dinner time. In Texas it is so dadgum HOT, that all you are doing is prolonging the heat.

It stays HOT longer. How is that helpful? You run more A/C? I don't golf, fish, or do anything like that. Never have. It is nice to be able to swim in our pool, but in July and August, you have to wait until it's almost dark. The sun will make you into a piece of jerky if you survive. Then, the water is like bath water.

The two major cities in Arizona refuse to go along with DST because of the heat issue. In Texas, we want to do business on Central Time because it attracts so many new companies. So, we have to go with the flow. UGH.

On the good side, I am barefoot and wearing shorts with the ceiling fan running.

when does daylight saving start and end in Canada? I personally love DS here in New Zealand. More light for more outdoor entertaining, later evening meals and activities. Hide n' seek with the kids is loads of fun in the dark too! ha!

Daylight saving in NZ starts late September and lasts til April, we've just had the length of time extended which is great!

NZ: the extra hour of daylight after working-hours during the summer months is of especial value to indoor workers and the community as a whole as it gives one additional hour for recreation of all kinds, whether playing games or working in garden plots…one cannot overlook the economic advantages that will also accrue. There will be a saving in the consumption of artificial light.

DST in Canada starts the 2nd Sunday in March and ends the 1st Sunday In November. Ours was just extended recently too. I love it but some people hate it. It seems that as you start East (I really mean start because it seems to start in Alberta), people seem to like it less. For me, I would rather we just stay on DST all year round.
