What is it about minimum wage workers that causes them to act like morons? So you see someone stealing something you simply follow them while calling the Police and let them handle the theft. Now if the thief was black he likely would have ended up dead anyways but at least the employees wouldn't be charged. And is WalMart paying for their lawyers.....?

Three Walmart workers in Florida have been charged with manslaughter in the February death of a shoplifter, police said Friday.

They are accused of suffocating Kenneth Wisham, 64, after he tried to steal $380 worth of DVDs in a shopping cart from the Walmart on North Road 98 in Lakeland Feb. 7, Fox 13 Tampa reported.

The station reported that the employees chased Wisham, who fell. They then held him on the ground.

As he was being restained, Wisham stopped breathing. The employees called 911 and an ambulance took him to the hospital, where he died, the station reported.

Lakeland police said Friday that criminal charges were warranted after the coroner ruled that Wisham died of mechanical asphyxia and that he had suffered 15 broken ribs.

Charged were Nathan Higgins, 35, a support manager, Crucelis Nunez, 23, a customer service manager, and Ruandall Tooko, 58, who works in loss prevention.

They were taken into custody Thursday.

A police affidavit quotes a witness as saying she saw Nunez knock Wisham to the ground and then pummel him with her fists.
Her accound differed from Nunez's.

She told cops that she “nudged” Wisham as it appeared he was about to fall.

According to the affidavit, Nunez also said she heard Wisham say, “Let me go, I didn’t do anything” and later say, “I can’t breathe.”

Walmart suspended the three employees in February as police investigated Wisham's death.

Good grief. We always have to explain everything to you like we do a 4 year old. I suppose I should encourage you to ask your Mommy or some other learned adult but I'll explain it for you.

A person died for mindlessly stealing useless crap from a store. The fact that he was stealing these items is Darwinian enough. The person died because 3 of the stores employees caused his death. All four are now Darwin candidates.

The thief is dead. Those that caused his death by overzealously reacting are screwed for life.

From what I could gather WalMart encourages their employees to not chase suspects. Not sure if that was the case in this store, but that is apparently their stance...

Still doesn't fit the thread.

Apparently some need to review the rules of the road to evolution (so to speak).

Officially, here it is:

Rules

So how are the Darwin Awards actually determined?
Nominees significantly improve the gene pool by eliminating themselves from the human race in an obviously stupid way. They are self-selected examples of the dangers inherent in a lack of common sense, and all human races, cultures, and socioeconomic groups are eligible to compete. Actual winners must meet the following criteria:
Reproduction
Out of the gene pool: dead or sterile.
Excellence
Astounding misapplication of judgment.
Self-Selection
Cause one's own demise.
Maturity
Capable of sound judgment.
Veracity
The event must be true.
[ What about kids? ]
[ Why so many men? ]
Not a Darwin (but not safe either)
* Whizzing on an electric wire
* Smoking in an oxygen tent
* Being hit by a train or automobile
* Aerosol cans, etc., in the oven
* Climbing into zoo cages
* Falling off precipice while posing or pissing
* Carbon monoxide poisoning
* Most autoerotic deaths
* all too common!

Killing others: The death of innocent bystanders absolutely rules out a Darwin Award. We don't applaud those who take others out of the gene pool, even if they share some DNA in common. Injuring bystanders is also frowned upon.

Darwin Awards: History and Rules

Hence being struck by lightening (unless you're perhaps flying a kite in a lightening storm) or being asphyxiated by heavy handed employees of the local Walmart, do not qualify for Darwin Award mention.

I guess he would qualify if he saw that the weather was getting worse and continued to mow the lawn.

Ont. man steals plane, dies in crash trying to land it: Cops
By Kennedy Gordon, Peterborough Examiner
First posted: Friday, August 12, 2016 07:57 AM EDT | Updated: Friday, August 12, 2016 11:02 AM EDT
One person is dead after the crash of a stolen airplane on Lansdowne St. near High St.
The plane, a Piper PA-38-112 Tomahawk, crashed at about 1:20 a.m. Friday.
"The plane was stolen from a rural airport in the GTA sometime last evening," said city police Insp. Lynne Buehler. The person flying it was a man in his 20s; he was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash.
His name will not be released, Buehler told local and Toronto media at the police station during a press conference Friday morning.
She said she had no information on whether the man was an experienced pilot.
"From all indications, it appears he was trying to land the plane," Buehler said.
Buehler said York Region police are investigating the theft of the plane. She declined to answer questions about the investigation, including the airport from which the plane was taken, although she said it wasn't Buttonville. It was a rural airport unstaffed at night, she said.
Peterborough police became aware the plane had been stolen when officers contacted the registered owner at his home after the crash, she said.
Peterborough Fire Services and paramedics responded to the crash early Friday and took part in the rescue effort.
Buehler said the man's body was flown to Toronto for a post-mortem that was to be carried out Friday.
The Transportation Safety Board will assist in determining the cause of the crash. Buehler said city police have been investigating by talking to witnesses and potential witnesses.
The crash occurred close to a 24-hour Shoppers Drug Mart location.
Lansdowne St. was closed between Monaghan and Erskine streets for much of the morning.
The Piper is a two-seater used primarily for training and personal use. It's equipped with fixed tricycle-style landing gear.
According to the federal Canadian Civil Aircraft Register, the Piper is registered to an owner in Newmarket, Ont.
Details to come.

MIAMI — Authorities searched in the Bahamas for a U.S. citizen who went overboard from a cruise ship before dawn Wednesday.
The U.S. Coast Guard said Rina Patel, 32, of Interlaken, New York, had been on the 11th deck of the Carnival Ecstasy as the ship passed near the island of Grand Bahama.
Carnival Cruise Line reported she apparently jumped overboard. A statement from the company said emergency procedures were initiated immediately and the crew began to search for the woman.
Coast Guard aircraft and two ships were searching an area about 27 miles (about 43 kilometres) southwest of Grand Bahama.
The cruise ship had left Nassau, Bahamas, and was en route to Charleston, South Carolina.
