not for extremists. They've managed to absolve themselves while killing their own, torturing their own. Plus, most of them barely know anything about Islam. They're recruited to cause mayhem and bloodshed, not for any religious reasons.

Just a bunch of barbaric uneducated disenfranchised individuals throwing themselves headlong into something, anything to feel they belong.

ISIS/ Daesh are just like a gang.

Oh hell ... political parties knock down legacies of the gang before them too to build their own monuments to stupidity. Doesn't enforce any illusion of representation does it?

ISIS has been blowing up Shia mosques for years now.

Western nations are the only ones to make a big deal out of hitting mosques.

Yep. Legend has it that back in the day, a young Air Force captain was briefing a group of senior generals, including the legendary Curtis LeMay, the founder and iconic commander of the Strategic Air Command (nuclear weapons). The young captain referred to the USSR as "the enemy" a few times, and finally LeMay impatiently cut in and said "Son, the USSR is the adversary. The enemy is the Army!"

The brainwashing is strong in the US - "my country, right or wrong", "the greatest country in the world". They are the only ones who believe that swill.
Damn! I forgot about Wally, the Yanky Wannabe.

It was the wrong colour of Mosque.
Death to all wrong colours.
Or people that don't worship Jesus or Yahweh or Ganesha or Brigham Young... Allah too.
Or anything someone doesn't believe in. You know.
The only reasons for ISIS existence is to create havoc in the muddled east and to provide the west with an excuse for intervention. The US created ISIS, financed them, trained them and supplied them. They were created as a cover for US aggression.

like these guys?

Individual conflicts that may be distinguished within this topic include:

Conflicts immediately connected with the Reformation of the 1520s to 1540s:
The German Peasants' War (1524–1525)
The Wars of Kappel in the Old Swiss Confederacy (1529–1531)
The Schmalkaldic War (1546–1547) in the Holy Roman Empire
The Eighty Years' War (1568–1648) in the Low Countries
The French Wars of Religion (1562–1598)
The Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), affecting the Holy Roman Empire including Habsburg Austria and Bohemia, France, Denmark and Sweden
The Wars of the Three Kingdoms (1639–1651), affecting England, Scotland and Ireland
Scottish Reformation and Civil Wars
English Reformation and Civil War
Irish Confederate Wars and the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland

Although later wars such as the Nine Years' War (1688–1697) had a religious component that was important locally in some arenas, they were more fundamentally undertaken for political reasons, with coalitions forming across religious divisions. Purely political motivations and cross-religious alliances were also significant in many of the earlier wars.

Looks like about 17 million dead just in this theater at those times.
not to mention all the churches bombed in Europe in WW1 and WW2
