This is a take over by foreigners.

This isn't the first time.

So go right ahead and lose a business YOU PERSONALLY OWNED to a handful of investors.

Enjoy!

Oh, that old gem.

In our area, Purolator (owned by Canada Post) just got the contract with UPS for all deliveries (UPS doesn't deliver here).
Does Canada Post? What is the cost difference for import brokering between the UPS/Purolator parcel and a CanadaPost lettermail? Do you or you boss need to import things on a nearly daily basis? What would it do to a business who relies on CanadaPost parcels to exist?

Well here is your chance to earn a few extra dollars JLM. Vernon has lots of deadbeats who will now have to be served notices etc which because mail was govt was the "agent". So go out and start a serving biz. You'll make $$$$ out the ass.

You, obviously don't have much of an inkling about Vernon, most people here are gainfully employed. Sometimes it's better to shut your mouth and appear a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

The last time I checked, they were using the same rate charts and measuring tapes.

No doubt they do and then tack on a percentage. A person recently mailed two identical parcels to two identical destinations, one from the P.O. one from the drugstore- the P.O. was cheaper.

I heard that too

Apparently, it's true, but then I wouldn't bet my life on it because I wasn't there (and there's a slight possibility that one of the vendors read the wrong rate off the chart) and there is also the fact that it is "anecdotal evidence" but on the other side of the coin no normal person in their right mind is going to lie about this sort of thing.

Having grown up in a rural area in B.C. our mail was delivered to a group box by a contractor even in the early sixties. All the communities on Northern Vancouver Island have only a post office box system, which when you're dealing with outsiders (like government workers) that want your address and you give them a box number would make such stupid comments as "You don't live in a box". Technically we did since many of us lived in mobile homes.
There is some merit in blaming a militant government union for destroying their employer by getting such ridiculous pay packages for the job they do. They are not the only union to destroy their employer though, many unions have done this rather than helping to ensure that the employer and some jobs survive they would rather loose them all on principal.

I think that if it's true, the person should lodge a complaint, because I'm pretty sure Canada Post has set rates, period.

Yes, after double checking the possibilites I mentioned for sure. However I'm quite sure the system allows private contractors to put a surcharge on (for a mulitude of excuses they could contrive) like less volume, having employees "multi tasking" etc. (which I have nothing against) HOWEVER, I think it should be prominently displayed that the rates are not necessarily the same as the Post Office.

I doubt that very much. I'm going to check into it, because you've got me curious.

I could be wrong, but I'd be very surprised if the prices were any different...the private ones are supposed to be "agents" are they not? They get paid on the volume they do, by Canada Post, but I don't think they're free to fiddle with postal rates. Let's see what you can find out on that one, TP...got my interest up too.
