It's inevitable people are going to die, but that's not to say it has to be acceptable. Of course there are deaths that are acceptable but not most of the ones we are able to prevent by reasonable means. Death of a healthy person in their 60s or 70s is not acceptable and those are some of the ones succumbing to Covid 19.
I never knew we had set expiry dates?

I'd rather go out with COVID19 in a few days than wither away to nothing over 16 months with pancreatic cancer.

How aboot you?

From all causes, Walter? Undoubtedly, some are from sudden death (shit happens). Quite a few are probably people in their 90s and a lot are from multiple organ burn out. Covid takes a bunch of otherwise fairly healthy people, that's the tragedy! (12,000 is probably closer)
Its takes out the already compromised in one way or another.

Pancreatic cancer is a terrible disease and I've known two or three people who succumbed to it, BUT one day soon there will be a cure, so even with that hideous disease there is hope, as Alex Trebek is proving. I think "expiry dates" have a lot to do with the genes. I'm a believer in the old adage "where there's life there's hope" :) We are all going to be "nothing" once we are dead. :)

There is a way to mitigate getting pancreatic cancer.

Avoid liquor and sugar.

Genes? Not really. It's more developmental environment.

Think plants. Same genes in different growing conditions have completely different growth and health.

I guess I got to cut down on the sauce. Nobody in my family has that type of cancer, or cancer in general.

Pancreatic cancer is very rare. A doctor, years ago, told me the chances of getting it in any given year is about 1/10000.

Are you serious?

The average lifetime risk of pancreatic cancer is about 1 in 64. But each person's chances of getting this cancer can be affected by certain risk factors.

McDonalds will require masks at all us locations starting August 1.

Leaping to action a mere 6 months in to the pandemic

I would trust the doctor who gave me that information but that was about 15 years ago, about the time an acquaintance died. I would agree the incidence has changed since then as people are becoming more couch ridden and shunning exercise more and possibly drinking more now. Too many apps now!

Good on McDonalds, you just have to pay attention to the way this thing is spiking in AB. I've never found any problem in wearing the mask for up to 2 hours and it doesn't affect my breathing. The one inconvenience I've noticed on rate occasions is my glasses fogging up.

I'll take the word of dozen of doctors who contribute their data to the Cancer Society.

Have you eaten a Big Mac while wearing a mask?

Not very rare. So far 100%.

Great idea, just too bad a few thoughtless, selfish bastards have to screw things up for the rest of us.
Yet even after all the videos of young people partying on the beach and in parks without following the pandemic guidelines, the BC government is still talking about going ahead with allowing drinking in the parks. If kids don't bother following the rules without the booze, I highly doubt intoxication will help matters much.

Opening up to beaches to booze in this pandemic year was the most hare-brained idea I've heard of in a long time!

You don't have to, I just slip the mask down for a second while taking a bite! :)

You should never slip your mask over your chin. You will grab contaminants on your chin and return them to your mouth and nose. It will increase your chances of getting covid not lessen. You would likely have to remove it from one ear ... assuming the restaurant is open for more than take out.

Why have Canada and America had such dramatically different outcomes?

Canada got better. The United States got Trump.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/07/i-moved-canada-during-pandemic/614569/

In the first months of the year, the trajectory of the disease in Canada approximately tracked the trajectory in the United States. Then, in early summer, the two countries’ experiences began to radically diverge.

At the end of April, the United States was reporting new cases at a rate—relative to population—approximately double Canada’s. That was only 12 weeks ago. On July 22, the United States reported new cases at a rate 14 times Canada’s.

In raw terms: On July 22, the 37.5 million people of Canada recorded 543 new coronavirus cases and eight fatalities. That same day, the 328 million people of the United States reported a staggering 69,730 new cases and 1,136 deaths.
