What other word could you describe for the Lights Went Out In Georgia

You have GOT to be kidding. because of that one song she's cheezy? As far as I'm concerned she did a hell of alot better job of it than Vicky did, and obviously, she's a far better vocalist than Lawrence ever was.

If we are going to argue about what is "Country" and what isn't, it's all a matter of degree, depending on the lyrics, the beat the voice, the subject, the instruments- what was considered "Country and Western" is a far cry from the typical "Country" music of today- the real thing is what we used to call "Honky Tonk"- like that epitamized by Hank Thompson. That would be ten on a scale of one to ten. Here is a typical ten. (Reba would probably be about a 5)

Northern Ontario,
Here is another good artist that is a carry over into the pseudo C & W era, but ranks up there with the best.

YouTube - Ricky Skaggs - Crying My Heart Out Over You (Bluegrass Version)

Ricky Skaggs is one of those artists that started in bluegrass, then went into country music and can cross from one to the other quite effectively.
I wish I could find a video of his latest "I had but 50 cents" a song I first heard (The french version with identical melody) in the early fifties.. and written in 1881
That is what I like about country (I prefer bluegrass)....it is music that everyone can understand, hum too...or sing along...

Having liver in a few countries i found myself listening to music, lyrics I could not understand but my heart did along with my tapping toes. That is when you know that muisic lyrics can be irrelevant - but the beat, the crowd, the movements of the music capture you. And off you go into having a good time.

Actually Reba got to where she is sounding a lot more country than where she is now.
I don't hate the music of today I just don't consider a lot of it to be real country.
There are all kinds of groups today that keep some of the influence alive in their music
and it still represents country. There is other stuff out there that is about the video not
the music. In my day country, rock, blues and so on, the music was more important
that the lights camera and action.
To me country fits into the time frame when radio was the prime source of getting the
music out. I remember a song can't think of the artist but the song was from the 80's

Janie Fricke now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. I have some old
45's of her singing with a guy name Johnny Duncan. I remember, I think the
guy who sang I saw It All On My Radio was Lionel Cartright, he had one hit
in the early 80's,

Third rock from the Sun
Cowboys whining in their beer and cowgirls pining over some young stud muffin who would rather hump heifers. Yup, gotta love country music.

You can write a song about how ashamed you are of being born a white male. And the guilty concious you have of your own culture and heritage. And your debut single could be called " I wish i was born Aboriginal"

OK. When someone tried to make a political issue out of it earlier you did not reply but, I suppose, better late than never. ;)
