Right on Goober, definitely the best genre of music, it stirs the emotions. C.B.C. radio (which I generally like) plays quite a bit of this high brow stuff like Beethoven and Chopin which does absolutely nothing for me. Tchychoffski is the one exception. Now if they'd play more Johnny Cash, Hank Thompson and Ernie Tubb, they might attract a bigger audience.

I see you are into reading history today, Goober! Didn't realize any of my blatherings would survive 4 years. Good too see someone has good tastes- Johnny and Hank would be proud.:)

My family was from East Texas and all were musical. Always got together and played guitar and sang. Needless to say it was only country western music they liked. As for me,, I hated it. Cornball to the max. I liked the Eagles, CCR and some folk. Couldn't stand country music.

During the recording of San Quentin (Live from Prison) in 1969, Johnny Cash was backstage taking a short break while Carl Perkins entertained the inmates. He pulled out a piece of paper with the words to a new song, one unfamiliar to his backing musicians, written by Playboy cartoonist Shel Silverstein. When he took to the stage again he put the lyrics on a music stand, spent a minute or so teaching the band the chord sequence, and then launched into a largely extemporaneous performance of what would nonetheless become the definitive version of

Best country music sanger I ever saw was the great Mayf Nutter.
Got his start on the buck Owens and the buckeroos tv show and went on to a guest appearance as the Great Bobby Bigalow on the Waltons. Not to be confused with Deuce Bigalow Male Ho.

Country Singer Randy Howard Killed in Gunfight With Bounty Hunter

Authorities say country singer Randy Howard has been killed in a gunfight with a bounty hunter trying to detain him.

Several media outlets report the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the Tuesday night shooting of 65-year-old Howard in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Howard has performed with country music stars Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. In 1983, his album All-American Redneck hit No. 41 on the Top Country Albums chart, while the title track went to No. 84 on Hot Country Songs. He also hit that singles chart in 1988, landing at No. 66 with his take on Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."

TBI spokesman Josh DeVine says the bounty hunter showed up at Howard's home to take him into custody for missing a court appearance. Devine said Howard opened fire, the bounty hunter shot back and Howard was killed.

DeVine said the bounty hunter was trying to detain Howard on a warrant charging him with fourth-offense DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and driving on a revoked license.

Country singer Troy Gentry killed in helicopter crash
Geoff Mulvihill, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Friday, September 08, 2017 06:51 PM EDT | Updated: Friday, September 08, 2017 08:57 PM EDT
LUMBERTON, N.J. — A helicopter carrying singer Troy Gentry, of the award-winning country music duo Montgomery Gentry, crashed on Friday, killing Gentry and the pilot.
The crash occurred in a wooded area as the helicopter approached the Flying W Airport in Medford hours before Montgomery Gentry was due to perform at a resort housed at the airport, authorities said.
The band’s website called Gentry’s death “tragic” and said details of the crash were unknown.
“Troy Gentry’s family wishes to acknowledge all of the kind thoughts and prayers, and asks for privacy at this time,” the website said.
Gentry, who was 50 years old, was from Kentucky.
Police got a call at about 1 p.m. of a helicopter that was in distress, said Joel Bewley, a spokesman for the Burlington County prosecutor’s office. The helicopter crashed as emergency crews arrived at the scene.
Crews removed Gentry, who was a passenger, from the wreckage, but he was pronounced dead at a hospital, Medford police Chief Richard Meder said.
The crews worked for hours to remove the body of pilot James Evan Robinson from the mangled wreckage. Robinson had been living in Medford but was originally from Meigs, Georgia. He was a helicopter pilot at the flight school at the Flying W Airport, police said.
Members of the country duo’s band including the other half of the duo, Eddie Montgomery, were at the airport when the helicopter crashed, Meder said. They were taken to the hospital to see Gentry, he said.
The helicopter had taken off from the Flying W Airport but went into distress and was approaching the airport to land when it crashed, Meder said. The purpose of the helicopter trip wasn’t known.
The National Transportation Safety Board was headed to the crash scene.
Gentry was born in Lexington, Kentucky, where he met Montgomery and they formed an act based off their surnames.
Montgomery Gentry had success on the country charts and country radio in the 2000s, scoring No. 1 hits with “Roll With Me,” ”Back When I Knew It All,“ ”Lucky Man,“ ”Something to Be Proud Of“ and ”If You Ever Stop Loving Me.“ Some of the songs even cracked the Top 40 on the pop charts.
The band mixed country music with Southern rock. It was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2009. It released its debut album, “Tattoos & Scars,” in 1999.
