neither report indicated that 70% are young males though, in truth, it would not surprise me if this is true as young males are generally more mobile that entire families - also Syria refugee camps are likelier to accommodate families so single males escape in order to find some means of support that they cannot find at home

since you are aware of this stat, what is your source for it?
That's the pattern we tend to see with migrants from Central and South America. The men come, work, and then bring their families.

It was also a common pattern for immigration into North America from Europe in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

So, another explanation for those less paranoid is that the "young men" are trailblazers.

For the more paranoid, they're invaders. Which is basically what the paranoid say and said about the Salvadorans, the Mexicans, the Italians, the Poles, the Irish, etc.

NATIONAL AFFAIRS: Harper isolated with misstep on refugee crisis

Retired general Rick Hillier served as the commander of the armed forces at the peak of the country's military engagement in Afghanistan. A dove he most certainly is not.

On his Facebook page this week, Hillier wrote: "I wonder why we, as the great country that we are, could not stand tall during these dark days for the hundreds of thousands of displaced souls who are fleeing, quite literally, for their very lives."

Barbara McDougall served as Secretary of State of External Affairs in Brian Mulroney's Progressive Conservative government. She, too, believes Harper has so far not risen to the challenge. In an op-ed piece published last week in the Globe and Mail, McDougall wrote: "It is beyond time for Mr. Harper to recognize that every leader faces an unexpected moral choice that sometimes seems to come out of nowhere - and this is his."

Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard supported Canada's military participation in strikes against Islamist extremists in the Middle East from the very start. He, too, is no dove.

His government wants to triple the number of Syrian refugees coming to Quebec. A number of other provinces, including Ontario, have similarly offered to do more. Couillard also decided to find out for himself just how difficult it is to sponsor a refugee family. He joined a group of his riding's constituents set up for that purpose.

There is a good argument about invasion though. I've heard it from indiginous north americans. And they were displaced. Maybe there's something in the idea.

Why doesn't Europe want them?

I think Germany has probably done more than its share, England is apparently going to import some. Not sure how many others in Europe have the wherewithal. Possibly France, Sweden and Italy may be able to take some. The bottom line is Syria has to be rehabilitated and Harper is taking the necessary first step and there's probably 10 more to go.

I suppose Russia could handle a sh*tload but Pukin is such an A$$hole.

Bulk of Ontario’s $10.5 million pledge will help resettle 10,000 refugees, Wynne says

What a joke. After the $2 million spent over there it works out to a whopping $850 per person once they arrive here. Yeah, that's all it'll cost us. Who's going to pay for their housing, food, govt services, education etc?

Sounds like Hillier is struggling to maintain relevance. His experiences alone should tell him that quickly bringing in tens of thousands is an unacceptable security risk, unless it's only women and children.

You can figure every refugee is going to cost us at least $25 grand a year! on second thought maybe closer to 50.

Hillier is just another government bureaucrap!

I wouldn't be too sure, there's lots of female suicide bombers!

"According to a report issued by intelligence analysts in the U.S. army in 2011, "Although women make up roughly 15% of the suicide bombers within groups which utilize females, they were responsible for 65% of assassinations; 20% of women who committed a suicide attack did so with the purpose of assassinating a specific individual, compared with 4% of male attackers." The report further stated that female suicide bombers often were "grieving the loss of family members [and] seeking revenge against those they feel are responsible for the loss, unable to produce children, [and/or] dishonored through sexual indiscretion."[90] Male suicide bombers are presented as being motivated more by political factors than female suicide bombers are."[91]

Great article at NP (for once) about the red tape and bloated bureaucracy that has come into place because of Heirper.

The numbers are a hot-button issue. But whether Canada lets in 10,000 or 100,000 refugees fleeing the continuing crisis in Syria, the process is largely the same — slow. In the last 20 months, for example, only 2,374 of the many thousands we have promised safe haven in Canada have actually made it here. Postmedia’s Alia Dharssi deconstructs the holdups, er, “process.”

What it takes to bring a Syrian refugee to Canada: Paperwork, interrogations and up to 18 months

Syrian refugees aren’t a terrorist threat
If ISIS wanted to launch an attack in Canada, trying to manipulate the refugee process would be a highly ineffective way of doing it.
