If you actually knew what the prize was about you would know he doesnt qualify.

According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

Pulled off the net. So how does Obama qualify again?

Based on the current record of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, let me predict some certain future laurates:

Kim Jong Il, for enriching his people with nuclear power.
Fidel Castro, for total equality in poverty.
Charles Manson, for eliminating blood-sucking capitalists.
Hugo Chavez, for kicking America, his source of wealth, in the head, time and again.
Posthumously, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler and Al Capone, for being all around, nice guys.
Bono, for being Bono. (Similar to the 2009 Award)
Bill Clinton, jointly with Monica Lewinsky for their struggle for the rights of sex workers.

I really don't think we are grasping at straws. I am not a hater... I think he is full of you know what and hasn't done a darn thing yet except getting us more into debt and not followed through on many promises.

I'm am having fun watching the ones who think he walks on water trying to justify him getting the award.

Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee said their choice could be seen as an early vote of confidence in Obama intended to build global support for his policies. They lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen the U.S. role in combating climate change.
- Surprised, humbled Obama awarded Nobel Peace Prize - Yahoo! News
As I said, I promise to make the world more peaceful.

According to the Nobel people, this year's peace prize nominees included 172 people and 33 organizations, the highest number of nominations ever.

lol I think they are definitely losing it. :geek:

Hey, I get it!!
The Big O has been trying to convice other countries that the USA won't continue to be as much of a jerk (at least not while he's at the WH), so that's working towards "fraternity between nations" ....... I think.:-?

The question is, who else should the award have gone to?

We don’t know that Niflmir, no doubt the Committee looked carefully at all the nominations (I remember reading that there were a large number of nominations, more than 200).

This award wasn’t just a whim on somebody’s part. They looked at a large number of nominations and they unanimously gave it to Obama. It is not up to us to second guess the Committee. It is their award, and it is up to them to decide who to give it to.

Again, it is not for you to say, it is for the Awards Committee to decide. They in their wisdom decided to give it to Obama, and it is senseless to try to second guess them.

But surely the people who are whining must have somebody in mind?
Whining? I think it's more like scoffing. lmao
Anyway, I found a little bit:

Until seconds before the award, speculation had focused on a wide variety of candidates besides Obama: Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, a Colombian senator, a Chinese dissident and an Afghan woman's rights activist, among others. The Nobel committee received a record 205 nominations for this year's prize, though it was not immediately apparent who nominated Obama.

"We reached a decision," the influential secretary of the committee, Geir Lundestad, told AFP.
"We held more meetings than usual because this time there were so many candidates, two of our members are new, and we wanted to make use of all the time we have to make the right choice," he added.
It is also likely that the committee needed more time because there was no obvious candidate.
That makes the annual guessing game - challenging at the best of times due to the secrecy shrouding the committee, its work and the identity of the candidates - even more difficult. The only names known to be on the list are those revealed by the select group eligible to nominate candidates, including members of parliament, past laureates, some university professors and the Nobel committee itself.

They include US President Barack Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
