"To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the tranformative figures who've been honored by this prize," Obama said in brief remarks at the White House.

We don't either! But hey enjoy!

From the Link above:

My bad. I misunderstood the reasoning behind awarding this Prize, and thought it
would have been for something that someone would have had to have actually
accomplished before being nominated...or for something they'd actually done
themselves. I learned something new today.

Can someone please nominate me today? I've got a year to do something before
these Prizes are doled out again next.

That is not always the case, Ron. Sometimes the Committee gives the peace prize more as an encouragement, in the hope that it will stimulate the person to reach untold heights.

I remember when we were living in Britain, one year they gave the Peace Prize to two Irish female activists (one Catholic, one Protestant), who were trying to put an end to the Protestant Catholic violence. It was quite a surprise. Their movement was showing a lot of promise and I think they awarded the Nobel Prize based upon that.

As it turned out, the movement fizzled out, didn’t come to anything. But that doesn’t mean that the decision to award them the Nobel Prize was wrong.

Obama has set a new tone on international scene, has signaled a shift in US foreign policy, from being the schoolyard bully who threatens and tries to intimidate anybody who disagrees with him, to a kind of group leader, motivational leader, who tries to bring out the best in people. And already the polls indicate that the opinion of USA abroad has undergone a remarkable shift, now it is much more favorable towards USA.

I think the Committee is saying, well done, and keep up the good work.

"But what has changed? Nothing!

Again...both wars are ongoing, Guantanamo is still open, there is STILL an issue with Isrealis and Palestinians. Everyone who had nukes still has them and nobody is going to give them up and Iran is trying to make them.

IF Obama had solved all those I would think he deserved it. He's solved nothing.

So Europeans like him... is that worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize?

I guess so! "

EagleSmack, one thing HAS changed: While George W. Bush never saw the reason to apologize for America, this President has done nothing but, on the international scene.

Everyone like their a$$es kissed. It changes opinions worldwide.
Maybe one of the reasons things went for a shi* is because Bush never had to apologise, now Obama does.
Time to start realizing the USA isnt the only country on this planet and get along with the rest of the world or get left behind.
Were going to have a global economy wether the USA likes it or not.
Obama figured that out not long ago and Canada is now able to bid on stimulus jobs in the USA and vice versa.
He was heavy protectionist when first elected, nice to see a guy that can change his mind once in a while.

LOL. She didn't get to be Miss Teen USA...but she was Miss Teen South Carolina. Her answer pretty much took her out of the running.

Something tells me she will do VERY well in life and not want for anything.
lol That reminds me of a study I heard about on CBC radio where some researchers found that people do better on tests if there aren't blonde people around than if there was.
They also discovered that people don't seem to take blondes as seriously as others.

"I read just now that the vote to award the prize to Obama was unanimous, not a single dissenting voice."

Seeing that anyone who is criticizing Obama for any reason whatsoever, is automatically labelled as a racist, the Nobel Committee members were willing to take no chance of ruined for life.

Not even in lily-white - but, alas, politically correct and socialist - Norway.

Really YJ? I suppose that makes Taliban racist, they have also criticized Obama getting Nobel Peace Prize.

Any day that Obama gets criticism from the Conservatives and the Taliban is a good day for him. But then I suppose politics makes strange bedfellows.

Hey, I'm not Taliban. That should double my chances for getting the prize next year. So far:
I'm not Taliban
I promise world peace
and I'm not Bush either.
I think I have a strong case for getting the prize.

Congratulations President Obama on the Nobel Peace Prize -- Now Please Earn it! | MichaelMoore.com

From Michael Moore... King of Liberalism.

It is a joke...plain and simple and the Liberals know it as well.

You agree with Michael Moore, EagleSmack? Then I assume you also agree with something else he said in his article.

"P.S. Your opposition has spent the morning attacking you for bringing such good will to this country. Why do they hate America so much? I get the feeling that if you found the cure for cancer this afternoon they'd be denouncing you for destroying free enterprise because cancer centers would have to close."

With every post you make your showing your ignorance on what the award is about, please read some of the links posted.
This may look like a good anti Obama hate bandwagon to jump on but you should read up a little on the award.
Starting to make some peeps look rather foolish.;-)

I do believe the commander in chief has a few fleets floating real close by North Korea right now.Sometimes peace is achieved through superiour firepower, dont think O's going to moving any ships out of that region soon.

I agree with him on the point of Obama not deserving the award.

Outside of that Michael Moore is a Liberal farce.

By the way FAILED

:pottytrain1: I read this:
As described in Nobel's will, one part was dedicated to "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses"
- Facts on the Nobel Peace Prizes

"Done" is a key word as is "holding" (as in sticking to your words). Research that.
