This thread is about HST not big. jeeez

Oh, that! I'm OK with it.

It's just another way for a government to take in money and why argue about it? It's going to happen anyway. If we don't like it, we could always vote out the government of the day, but the next one won't do anything about it. Ms. James already said so. It's a bit of a defeatist attitude, I know. But then again, it does have some merit in terms of economic growth. It's that little short-term hit that is going to cause some pain.

'Scuze me for getting diverted by "big", but I'm just trying to get along here as a newcomer...hate to be rude to anyone, right? (I did keep the posts short though, as I think he has a little trouble absorbing more than a couple of words at a time and I didn't want to overwhelm him. That wouldn't be kind - My mother always taught me to be extra nice to people that have trouble keeping up others)

The harmonized tax has put the Conservative party in somewhat of a bind here in Ontario. The Ontario Conservative leader is opposed to harmonization (he has to be, he is the leader of the opposition, it is his duty to oppose anything and everything Liberals propose).

Anyway, so he has come out strongly against the harmonization. His problem is that Conservatives support it federally. The deputy leader of the Conservative Party is the wife of Flaherty.

When asked about the fact that Ottawa supports the harmonization, Tim Hudak, the leader refused to talk about it, claiming that it is a local issue. But conservatives have lost plenty of credibility locally here in Ontario over the issue.

The Conservative leader probably sensed that there were votes to be had by opposing the harmonization. But since Ottawa enthusiastically supports harmonization, it has backfired on him, simply made him look like a clown.

Thanks Ron. I guess if you have to put together a form letter to try and control this thing, it probably isn't worth it to have a "bit of fun" with him (big) now and again. Sorry for any distractions I caused to the other folks.

I have enjoyed the exchanges though, and have actually learned some things from many of the folks and their posts. Time to sign off now.

Thanks to all for the experiences, and as they say (somewhere)..."Carry on Canada!"

Funny. I always thought the oppositions were supposed to oppose as long as the gov't was trying to do a nasty to people. Would they oppose if the gov't was trying to do something nice, too?

Did Dave Stupich go to jail? I didn't think so. The only one I can remember was Robert Sommers of Social Credit fame during the hot summer of 1958.

Thanks for the name. Can't remember all the details but he wound up with house arrest due to his health.
