ES,
This event happened during a military exercise. The point of military exercises is to prove battle readiness. An undetected Chinese sub in the middle of an military exercise was a major coup for the Chinese. Another way of looking at this is that the Chinese sub did the US Navy a favor. Its far better that the US navy learned that Chinese subs can sneak up on their aircraft carriers during a peacetime exercise than during the war.
Why is it so hard for Americans to give credit to other nations? Your comments make you look arrogant and wilfully ignorant. So your pride was wounded. Get over it.
I doubt many Canadians wish harm to American servicemen. I know I certainly don't. Americans should realize that Canada is a close friend. No we don't go along with everything the US does. That's our perogative as a sovereign nation. Canada did not join the US in Iraq because our leaders decided that Iraq was not a threat the US, despite pre-war propaganda to the contrary. Turned out our leaders were right and I am proud of that. Canada didn't help the US in Vietnam either for the same reason. Given our track record of picking our wars wisely, maybe Americans should pay closer attention to which wars Canada supports and which ones we don't. That way you might have avoided Vietnam and now Iraq.
BTW, Canada has never lost a war, including ones we fought against the US...
As you may or may not know, Canada is in Afghanistan and we are taking significant casualties:

We are in Afghanistan because of the 9/11 attack on the US, not because of an attack on Canada. Americans should also be aware that Canadian soldiers were among the first allied soldiers in Afghanistan, before the main assault:

Even though 9/11 was an attack against the US, most Canadians felt and still feel that Canada has an obligation to help the US when it is attacked because you are a friend. Show us a real credible threat to the US and we will be there. But don't expect us to help the US dominate the middle east for profit.
