Computers and the internet are wonderful things as tools of communication. Obviously I am in favour of them or I would not be writting this to you.
But like all things in life, we must be cautious to pur the internet in perspective with our real lives. It is not a substitute or equivalent for real phsycial relationships with other people.
Amongst those who literally never leave their homes because they are sitting at this machine all day and night, you will find people deeply afraid of honest human contact and intimacy.
With the exception of my husband and daughters/grandchildren, I could "plead' guilty to the above,
and I have to be aware constantly to make myself go out "into the world", if only to chat with
store workers, waitresses, etc. The other day, I was sitting by myself having a coffee, and an "old"
lady stopped and looked down at me, and said, "Are you alone?, 'yes", "do you mind if I join you,"
"by all means, sit down", I found out from our conversation that her husband is very ill, and she is
very lonely, we had a nice visit for awhile, then parted ways, very enjoyable indeed.
I do not "mix" though, and this computer is an enjoyable outlet for me, on and off during the day,
as it is just like a visit and a chat, and I have only been doing this for a short while, so it is a nice
addition to my day.
