Carbon pricing pushes gas prices higher in Ontario, Alberta

I saved a lot more than $4. 2 trucks at 125L each both with 400L slip tanks and the 1000 gallon storage tank at home plus 25-20L jerry cans. All of it diesel so about 6090L @ $0.053/L is a saving of $322.77. I think that was worth my time.

Now even if every driver in Alberta and Ontario saved only $4 that is still about $10-15 million the government didn't steal from us. F*ck the crooks and you!

If by long game you mean until the next election then yes because Cun-tley will not be re-elected. She will probably be lucky to not be shot before her 1 term is over.

Here's what's really dumb. If some hideous plague suddenly swept across Canada and killed us all tomorrow, you wouldn't be able to measure any difference in atmospheric carbon, the change would be so small.

A few extra bucks a week to heat your house or to drive you to a wage job is going to cause real hardship for a significant portion of the population that lives on a financial knife's edge.

Now, that's dumb.

... and incredibly arrogant. That is how I remember Liberals after my six decades. Arrogant.

Adding insult to injury all businesses that had fuel on hand at 00:00:01 Jan 1/17 had to pay the carbon tax on it and then again charge the carbon tax on it when it is sold to the consumer. My local cardlock got hit with an $18,000 bill and will send in another $18,000 on the same fuel when it is sold. Nothing like double-dipping.

The Provincial government is desparate for a new, big steady source of revenue. They haven't had a bonanza like this since sales tax was invented.

Okay, ya got me there, it's only 23 cents a liter if you don't include the new carbon tax.

Historical Gas Price Charts - Alberta Gas Prices

Provincial average November 20th : 84 cents a liter, December 31 : $106.5 /liter

So sue me. :)

Fair enough... That's an increase that was not apparent where I am.

All the same, how about the other two points raised?

Moral outrage is directed at the fraudulent logic behind the tax increase

If it's only 4 bucks, how about the gubmint reverse the tax and then take another 5 or 6 cents off the price of gas..... It's only a few bucks to the gubmint, right?

I guess that would depend what your version of the "logic" is. From what I've garnered from the whole schlemiel is that carbon taxing is a tool to encourage the public to understand that the burning of fossil fuels comes with a price, and that those who burn less, or use products that require less to produce, will reap a savings. It has also been said that this lesson will not be widely learned until taxation levels rise to the neighbourhood of $200/tonne. Bend over, they're no done yet.

I think the NDP have already capitulated to some degree by introducing the rebate plan. That, in my opinion, was a political move to reduce the backlash from the public and it's potential for vote killing. The rebate plan does in fact, work against the principle of the overall carbon taxing concept. If some hefty whining is all it takes to get you off, then people will learn nothing but how to whine, a skill that is already widespread.

They should lower other value added taxes and income taxes to compensate, but leave or raise taxes on alcohol, cigarettes, gambling etc.

BC claims to have done this. At least for natives who are of course exempt from the carbon tax either because their gas doesn't emit CO2 or it is their aboriginal right to pollute. The act doesn't specify which.

For some reason gas prices spiked another 6 cents today on the island. That now represents a 25% increase from one month ago.

It's really sad and pathetic that junior is unable to pull his head out of the clouds and lower himself enough to connect with the citizens of the country he is charged with leading. Or maybe its just "Brad Wall's farmers" that he can't relate to. Good thing we have someone grounded like Wall to explain simple logic and reality to this goof.

In reponse to Trudeau interview, Premier Wall continues fight over ‘ill-conceived carbon tax scheme’ | Saskatoon StarPhoenix

"And if Brad Wall is worried about the cost on his farmers, or the cost on a particular industry, he can return to them all the money from the carbon tax."

Wall, in his Facebook post, said "They aren't my farmers, they're Canada's farmers, who are literally feeding Canada and the world, and creating thousands of Canadian jobs in the process. And their national government should be working with the Saskatchewan government, not against it, to ensure Canadian agricultural production remains as cost effective as possible in an increasingly competitive global marketplace."

Nobody has. It's a place in the mind of a half wit child. Are you the half wit child with imaginary places and friends in his mind?

Apparently you are.
