They of course have an obligation to be nice to Canadians. We're there number one tourist destination for one thing, they wouldn't want to upset that would they?

.

Oh I have a feeling that $5.50 isn't going to stop a family from going to Disney World, or a group of Canadian College kids from heading to Panama City, Fl., or a group of guys heading to Vegas for a Bachelor Party, etc.

Have not needed an excuse NOT to go to the US since they went crazy with their airport groping and searching . This is just the icing on the cake for not going there. from what I hear from those that still car travel there ....the experience is so unpleasant , they too don't go unless they HAVE to ( business etc )

Kinda sad......as many relatives are there .......but if they want a visit......they will just have to come here.

Kinda sad too that the US continues to make decisions that isolates them even further. But that is their choice. Just as it is a Canadian choice to go or not to go there.

Sheer madness.... is what it is. Just like all such situations. They start with a relatively smallish number. People say....."well, it isn't all that much as they rationalize it to themselves. Soon the number starts to creep up and/or additional things are added.

Is this how the US plans to recover from its obscene spending and obscene national debt?? Shows how bloody desperate they are.

Why should Canada help pay off their debts when they incurred them with their ongoing grandiose foolishness?? It shouldn't.

I travel to the states many times for various reasons. Very few by air or water. Even if I do, $5.50 is hardly a deal breaker.

I also highly doubt it will pay their debt. $7 of that fee will probably be required by the buracracy required to collect it.

Probably not many at all, good point.

IF they were smart.......they would realize that Canada is probably the only real "friend " they have. But that matters little......as they don't give a damn who they offend or slight. No one is asking for special favors......just common courtesy.

Good Lord, the wind just shifted to from the south as America heaved a sigh of relief....

so now you speak for the US as a whole??? Wow......what a pointificating and arrgant position to take.

IF what you say is true......then my presence there would have been profound. to affect them that strongly.  :p

Too funny.

I'm glad all my friends aren't like you Breezy!

No special favors? If you read the article you'll find that Canadians have been exempt from the surcharge over other countries.

Put that in your FAIL column.

Good Lord, the wind just shifted to from the south as America heaved a sigh of relief....

You should be our representative and speak for all Americans. ;)

Who would want that whinning miserable woman rolling into our hotels, restaurants, etc.

I don't care; if the US wants to charge passengers for arriving, that's up to them.

Why is this such an outrage to Canadians? Do we have some charter right to enter the US free? Either you want to go, or you don't. Who cares? Why is it a big deal?

If you are on a fixed income where every dollar is spoken for?

Just keep us posted as this "tax" rate starts going up. How much will it have to be before folks rebel against it??

Once these kinds of things start.........there is no way they will stop but will most likely increase as time goes on.

But if that is acceptable to the general publc.....then I am obviously in the minority.

OT for a second: but seriously , do you have comprehension problems?? You seem to take my statements out of contest and make assumptions as to what they mean.

IS poster bashing, the way YOU do ........a non hating phenomena.??? You have yet to stick to the topic when you respond to my posts. You immediately go into defensive mode and react with that knee jerk reaction that is pure impulse and non thinking.

I never said I was funny. I said that your comment was funny as it implied that I had a certain importance to the US to make then heave a sigh of relief over my not going there.

Did not realize until now..........that I have to explain my posts in order for them to be understood.

Now ........back on topic

Personally, I find their security checks and manual groping more offensive than the tax .....but both are an insult to humanity and being a neigbor.

But if you think it is just fine............heck go for it.
How loud do you protest the cover charge at your friendly local pub?

David Jacobson, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, defended the Obama administration in a statement on Monday, telling Canadians not to take the removal of the surcharge exemption personally.

"The elimination of the exemption was necessitated by the budget situation in my country," he said.

"It is paid by American citizens and foreign nationals alike just like Canadian citizens and non-Canadian citizens pay fees at Canadian airports .... This fee is not in any way an action against Canada and will not have any effect on the progress of the ongoing discussions surrounding the Beyond the Border initiative.”

From an article. Is this true?

It costs money to process visitors...$5.50 is chump change, people spend that much on a coffee for crying out loud. I don't see the big deal. They're trying to cut costs, why not recoup some of that cost from the actual source of the cost?

If this is the standard for other nations as well...... Why isn't Canada charging a similar Tax?? And just to be "politically correct"........charge the tax on ALL international visitors. That way the US can't whine ..or claim it is some kind of "revenge" for their tax.

If you are on a fixed income where every dollar is spoken for?

People on fixed incomes with no extra money frequently take trips by plane and boat to the US, do they?

From an article. Is this true?

Many Canadian airports charge an extra airport fee, which supposedly pays for airport improvements.

I'm not sure why people on fixed incomes where every dollar is spoken for are worrying about and extra $5.50 when flying to the US, apparently every dollar isn't spoken for, or they wouldn't be flying to the US.

Eagle, next time I cruise down the 95, I'll think of you. And maybe I'll rant about having to pay a toll on the Maine Turnpike, it's an insult to Canadians.
