If la Migra and HSL are so **** hot they would have found Big Foot by now and IRS would be on him for taxes.

BF has native status so can't be taxed. But he will demand his own treaty and lands. Plus compensation for land lost to immigrants and resource extraction. And future movie and book rights.

I have family residing on the US/Canadian Border and they have no fears about illegal border crossings at all. The one thing they wish is that some of the traditional Canadian Common Sense would somehow find it's way into American politics.

I have often been struck by the fact that the US seems to be moving in the opposite direction to the rest of the world. While many European nations are opening their borders to the point where a citizen of the EU can now reside in any EU member nation, the US is doing everything in its power to recreate Fortress America. Given the fact that this policy seems to have been manifestly unsuccessful in curbing illegal immigration one wonders whether or not a change in policy might be a good idea, especially as very few of the countries the Americans seem to most fear, such as Mexico, Nicaragua, and so on, make any effort to prevent Americans from setting up residence inside their borders.

excellent points. j& very well stated. Seems that all the fear mongering that the USG has done about terrorists, immigrants, threats of all kinds (real and imagined - but highly propagandized and "foreigners"......has worked in creating a very fearful population. Heck.... they have so many guns there......it is a rite of passage. ( again......that fear factor) Their homes are fortresses under massive security systems. The nation is just a bigger place with same.

The problem is that with the way the US acts on the world stage, starts wars (human slaughter as opposed to any kind of diplomatic solutions, ) with hardly a second thought. Uses targeted assassinations as a form of ":justice" , has a mob /lynching mentality that shows itself in situations like the verdict of today's trial........... perhaps they are justified in living in fear. They have been isolating themselves for some time...... so this fortress mentality has evolved in that time. Perhaps this is also why what they believe about themselves is not even reality based. They have no idea of how they are perceived and that too contributes to their ongoing fear.(except that they are not respected or liked as much as they believe they are)

PS......those that actually leave the country.......for travel or ?? do so under the Canadian flag. ( just check their lapels and backpacks)

and then they have the audacity to criticize Canada. and even issue threats. Or claim the Cdn border is a threat.

.......they truly have lost their point of centre , along with some semblance of reality.

they see threats in everything. Their fear has gipped them to the point they are not even rational about what is a real threat and what isn't.

It is sad to watch. Meanwhile the just keep warring on other nations and wonder why they are not respected.

It is the US that is the biggest threat to the planet and world peace.

Six CF-18s have flown 324 attack missions so far....

That means lots of non-guided bombs, missiles & oodles of strafing with the .50 eh!

"Oh appoint a Canadian. They don't know how to say no."

Bull crap. Canada said NO to the Iraq stupidity. (and took a bashing for it . US temper tantrum style)

THis has been a US invasion under the guise of NATO. Obama even said as much . the reason being that he did not want the US to be seen as the primary aggressor. er interventionist. This was on the media and punctuated as such.... as Obama is very image conscious all of a sudden.

That is how the US is operating now. Then if things goes south........they can pretend not to be responsible.

............EXACTLY!!!!. It is really sad to see what a milk toast Harper is when it comes to the US.. WE should all chip in and send him down there seeing as how he has so much US envy or whatever his syndrome is. Any other leader of a nation would be considered a traitor. ( and rightly so)

Maybe he would like to live in the fanatical south. for a while. and help them rebuild from Katrina At least that way , he would be doing something noble.

be careful how you treat the Chinese. They are probably holding your chips . The US is owned by them via the national debt.

Like Homer Simpson says; "the two best words in the English language de fault".

We are at economic war with them. I'm sure Harper will pull more Soviet Party money out of his ass and buy out Husky in a Talisman/BP Canadian Govt partnership. BP owes us HUGE for Libya.

You want Harper? You can have him. But then, this is a NATO operation and they picked a Canadian to drop bombs for them.
"Oh appoint a Canadian. They don't know how to say no."

I bet Harper creamed his jeans.

Nope, we have our own.

Afghanistan is a NATO operation as well.

Not only to drop bombs but to tell everyone else where to drop bombs! This is your's.

No, this is your's. Face it.

Now the U.S. is asking Russia to "mediate" the Libya conflagration. Big "O" and Hilary think that Russia would be a good candidate to mediate and broker an arrangement whereby QuackDaffy can remain in Libya but have no powers.
Good grief; you couldn't make up any stupider stuff than this. Talk about an utter embarrassment for the U.S. to suggest Russia as an alternative.
What about the other members of the coalition do they even have a say, and if so, is "are you people retarded?" acceptable diplomatic repartee?
If this becomes a reality, Canada needs to get out of the U.N. like yesterday! they're always a day late and a dollar short anyway. The U.N. hasn't been relevant since allowing every dictator and their red-headed-step-children to join up.
Suggesting Russia as a mediator ranks right up there with restraining the Israelis from cleaning house in Iran for stupidity. To also suggest that "daffy" can remain in Libya is dooming that country to years of internal strife.
We need to get out of this Libya cluster-f*** as soon as possible. No mission statement, no mission plan, no boots on the ground, reliance on a bunch of rag-tag rebels all driving in different directions in those stupid pick-ups with AA guns in the back. It's been a shambles from the get go and handing the blue berets over to the Russkies will be the icing on the cake.

..Indeed !!!
********

about "canadian border a bigger theat: US "official". is just living proof how far into the depths of insanity "officials " like this have gone........taking others with them by even uttering such stupidity.

the only threat on the border equation is the irratic , war hungry, financially desperate , morally empty, lawless US.

IF they spent half the time solving problems in a rational way that that they do looking for real .but mostly imagined threats..... the US would be in much better shape right now,

Harper better watch himself or he will take Canada down with him as he tries to emulate his buddy the US. aka Useless State.

Does anyone from the "coalition" have any say??

OF course not.

There's at least some excuse for the Canadian Border Services to get it wrong as they've had a 180 degree change in their mission statement from that of tax revenue collectors from all those returning canucks on shopping junkets south to now having to actually consider Canada's security as part of their job description, it's gotta be tough to shoulder that heady responsibility with the minimal training new immigrants are likely to get after successfully completing the 4 question job application.

Now, our counterpart Border Patrol has been operating as a security force forever so they've had much more time to hone their 'goon tactics'. so that those very astute questions that they've asked me when crossing with my RV are critical to the scrutiny to weed out the riff-raff from entering. We've been asked by an individual manning the kiosk "did you win the lottery?" to which my answer was "no, we're retired factory workers" which prompted a repeat "did you win the lottery?" -again I answered "no, we did not win the lottery" his rejoinder was then "you must have won the lottery!" Now; I'm a little non-plussed by this time, so, in full respect for the .357 on his hip I asked him a question thusly: "sir, you're going to have to help me out here as I have no idea what answer you are looking for with your refusal to accept the answers already given". He didn't like that so sent us on to secondary inspection at which point I asked to speak with a supervisor and lodged my complaint by asking him the very same question; refusing to accept his answer and then asking him what relevance that retarded question had to do with his countries security and finishing with; "you actually allow a retard like that to carry a weapon?" At that point we were handed our passports and gruffly told to proceed and have a nice day!

Another experience, within days of 9/11, was to be told to stand on the curb 20 feet away from our fifth wheel camper while two agents searched it and a National Guardsman stood sternly facing us with his rifle at "port arms". At least we understood the reactionary reasoning behind that occurrance. Dumb; but understandable.

In terms of the terrorist threat, it's commonly accepted that [it's] the more significant threat, because of... people who can enter Canada then and come across our bridges into the United States," Alan Bersin, head of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency.”

“come across our bridges into the United States” says Alan Bersin..

Correct me if I’m wrong,…the U.S. has their own border/customs patrol/ and security checks?? At these same border crossings..

And then there is the border with Mexico“ “…questioning from Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican who demanded to know why the southern U.S. border, with about 445,000 arrests and detentions annually, isn't considered far more sensitive than the northern boundary, which saw 6,000 arrests and detentions last year.”
