Too low, imo.

Canada to admit nearly 1 million immigrants over next 3 years

Canada will welcome nearly one million immigrants over the next three years, according to the multi-year strategy tabled by the Liberal government today in what it calls "the most ambitious immigration levels in recent history."

The number of economic migrants, family reunifications and refugees will climb to 310,000 in 2018, up from 300,000 this year. That number will rise to 330,000 in 2019 then 340,000 in 2020.

The targets for economic migrants, refugees and family members was tabled in the House of Commons Wednesday afternoon.

Hussen said the new targets will bring Canada's immigration to nearly one per cent of the population by 2020, which will help offset an aging demographic. He called it a historic and responsible plan and "the most ambitious" in recent history.

"Our government believes that newcomers play a vital role in our society," Hussen said. "Five million Canadians are set to retire by 2035 and we have fewer people working to support seniors and retirees."

Hussen said immigration drives innovation and strengthens the economy, rejecting some claims that newcomers drain Canada's resources and become a burden on society.

He said the government is also working to reduce backlogs and speed up the processing of applications in order to reunite families and speed up citizenship applications.

The rate of immigration is too high because they don't tend to disperse around the country but they concentrate in the suburbs of the GTA, which can't keep up with the rapid rate of growth. It is setting the infrastructure of the region further and further behind. The GTA just can't bare adding a million every half decade without systems here breaking down.

333K per year sounds about right. We historically fall far short of these immigration goals.

It does so I guess you agree

A pretty fair percentage do come and buy into, and immerse themselves into being Canadian, thankful for the opportunity to join the Canadian family. There is also a fair percentage that come to this country to take advantage of our system, have no intention to join the Canadian family in this case there are already enough people in our country with their hands out.

Also Immigration on the most part are peoples that do want to come to our country and better their lives pay their fair share and live the North American dream.

The refugee program on the other hand is a little different, on the most part they don't want to leave their country and culture they just don't want to die, or live in poor living conditions.

According to the Fraser Institute our immigration system currently costs all three levels of government about $30 billion a year. That's the difference between what we spend on immigrants and what they remit in taxes. Immigrants have lower wages and higher unemployment than Canadian born, a situation which has been steadily getting worse. The primary reason is most of our immigrants are from the third world and have poor language skills. We could get immigrants from Europe, who perform better economically, but the government prefers immigrants from areas of the world who tend to vote Liberal, like the Middle East. About a third of our immigrants are Muslim, and Muslims voted overwhelmingly for the Liberal party in 2016. According to an Immigration Canada report immigrants from the middle east have among the least economic success in Canada, but that pales into insignificance compared to their Liberal voting record.
