I thought the Chicken Little avatar was quite funny too. Does Dark Beaver offence of being called Stone Head - I think not, DB seems a very mature person who can see the rational. It is not my fault SF is the way they are.

I'v been here for a while, so I don't take offence easily, stone head is actually pretty close to the truth so I won't complain about it too much.;-)

Tyr;

No, but the United Nations does.......

Which is why we didn't kick their ass BEFORE 9-11. (see below)

Territorially, no we weren't....although more than 20 Canadians died in 9-11. As well, we have at least three treaties with the USA that are mutual defence treaties.....an attack on one is considered an attack on all.....thus the WE were attacked.

Better a US "stooge" than a Taliban "stooge"..........at least I'm not taking the side of those killing Canadian soldiers.....

You think you know something????

You have a blind, unthinking, idiotic knee-jerk anti-American reaction to just about everything....an indication of the National Canadian Disease.......a sense of inferiority to our friends down south.....Luckily I seem to have escaped that, and can view them as equals.

I keep telling you morons, I don't play with guns.........

It reads like a RNC recruitment poster for the evangelical fringe. Even the Americans don't love themselves as much as you love them. What are you still doing in a "free" country?

Same old rhetoric...

Since when do you speak for Americans... you know nothing about how we feel. You are just green with envy for us... that is totally clear. You are absolutely obsessed with everything American.

maybe we can pull our troops back and rent 'em out to the US. God knows they need some "real" soldiers if the Afghan issue is ever going to end

Hmmm... this makes sense. So the Canadian soldiers there are not "real" soldiers but once you pull them out and rent them to us they will be "real" and do a better job?

So peoples noses are out of joint because we may decide to leave. They says we are not finishing what we started.. I say we have.. Even if we decide to stay I say it's time to force others to join in and pay their NATO dues..

Our commitment was till February 2009 originally and was "extended" till 2011. How many more times will we need to extend our mission when "other" NATO countries sit on the sideline watching and not helping.. Why should we feel guilty for leaving when others are not spending money and losing soldiers?

It's time for the "other" members of NATO to step up and do their job..

Of the 26 members of NATO, two are North American countries (Canada and the US) and 24 are European countries. All members have militaries, except Iceland, which joined on the condition they would not have to create a military. Three of NATO's members have nuclear weapons: the United Kingdom, France, and the United States.

Way to get behind the troops there numbnuts. Don't bother dying for what our country holds to be honour, truth and justice, go die for whatever so we can collect some rent off your butt?

Don't be insulting, people are dying for this.

Oh applause! Applause!

You managed to come out with an insulting response without addressing a single one of the issues we were debating.........or defending your stance on anything....like for instance:

Should we, as a nation, walk away from treaties when we are called upon to fulfill our commitments?

or do you simply believe we have no commitment, no such thing as "national honour?"

Don't you feel that in opposing our presense there you are aiding our enemies? Are you not insulted when I insinuate you are proud to be a stooge of the Taliban?

BTW, I hate to break it to you, but the United States is a free country, in many ways more free than Canada......

Yeah. I don't like walking away from an unfinished fight........but it has become politically impossible to stay past 2011 in a frontline military role, and we are a democracy....

And I am pissed at Nato.

My reaction if they don't pony up?

****'em. What we need is a strong military/cultural/economic alliance of the English-speaking peoples.....Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, perhaps even India.

Screw continental Europe.

Of course it is time for those who have not paid their dues to do so. My point is that school children and women cannot walk down the streets in Afghanistan without being blown up. Our jobs are not quite finished yet.

We have done our time and held our own in Kandahar, we have brought hope to these people (i hope) and our men and women have died bringing it to the Taliban.

I salute and respect our troops to going to war in a foreign environment. I respect each person out there right now, from the kid down the street from me who is over there to the albertans who were good snipers, my hats off to you guys. Time to pack it up in 2011.

There is an Asian security council and maybe if we haven't already we should be handling more responsibility to them since its a issue on there continent.

of course this is my opinion

I agree with you Sir Francis... again to a point.

Canada is living up to their bargain and doing what is required and doing more than most with very little. It is time for the other NATO countries to pitch in and take active roles in the south near the Pakistan border along with the Anglo nations. This being "in the rear with the gear" has got to stop. They have the forces and the hardware.

Like I said... if they don't step up to the plate and something breaks out in Europe... perhaps Canada and the US can set up a supply tent in England.

Atrocities happen all over the world. Should we be there to ensure that doesn't happen?

If so, we'll need to increase our armed forces 10 fold to cover the crimes in The Congo, Sri Lanka, etc. Or are these in a different category of atrocities? Something no less horrific?

What is your guideline to say who gets invaded and who gets to carry on as if nothing has happened?

I gather that language makes better troop/economies? Hmmmm, I'd never thought of it that way (or ever will)

Pretty "whacked" statement and I'm sure you would like to have never written it or intended it that way

Canada and India aren't 100% English, so how would that work in your dichotomy? Maybe Ireland could take up the slack?
