well I don't listen to any of these programs, so why should I be made to pay for someone's else pleasure?
. No one is paying for my listening pleasure to other stations.

BS, what stations do you watch?

Ctv and global.
They provide all the necessary coverage. The CBC is just a waste of Taxpayer money. If you want to watch it, then you should pay to watch it, but I see no reason why i should pay for you to watch it. Your not paying the channels I watch and I am not asking you to. Your just accustomed to your entitlements because your grew up in a culture of entitlements. You know no different...

No, I'm looking for value for tax dollars.
You won't find any in supporting the CBC!!

A small portion of the population granted special treatment to leave work at the drop of a hat does what to save tax dollars?

If people want fire protection they have three options;

1 - hire full time firefighters
2 - use volunteers
3 - buy fire trucks that operate themselves

Option #2 is the most cost effective (by a country mile). The problem is accessing the available manpower.

Ooooooooh a "red notch" so early in the day. I bet I can guess who by the fourth guess!
Yes, there seems to be some inconsistency in his administering of them.

He alluded to some pattern, I thought it was for posts he deemed in his new position as internet superhero, as being trolling or abusive.

But it seems that, 1, only he is allowed to troll or be abusive. 2, the post has to be made by a specific few, while he ignores the multitude of others, including his own. That go beyond sharing commonality.

I'm not surprised really. His hypocrisy is legendary. Just like his endorsement of special status for one group, while condemning another.

I disagree. The alternative would not be thousands of paid union firefighters. We didn't have that before the tax credit and there is absolutely no reason to believe we would need it if the tax credit wasn't implemented. As a volunteer firefighter, I don't mind the tax credit but what does it actually accomplish. I don't know of a single firefighter that would base his/her decision to volunteer on the credit nor do I know of a single department that has attracted a new member because of it.
I think it would have been better to give tax credits to businesses that allow their employees to join and leave work in the case of a fire call. That is our biggest challenge. Fire departments are expected to do more and more, requiring a bigger time commitment and companies have a tough time losing employees, sometimes for a full day (and with no advanced warning).
It didn't change my mind either but it helps make up for lost pay. Especially when we spend a saturday on a course when I could have been working. Like this weekend I am doing the last test for NFPA certification. on Sunday. I could have worked today but I have chores and want a little rest. This is simpler than giving money to the companies since there is less bureaucracy involved. Any company that would not permit their employees to run off to help save a live or the community had best have a serious rethink of their priorities.
A local contractor that I sometimes drive for once asked me if I would stop in the middle of a job to go to a fire so I told him that I wouldn't if it was his house but probable would if it was his neighbor's. He kind of grunted & wondered off after that. About a year after that we saved his oldest son's life.

Right, by granting special status to a small portion of the populace.

Thanks for clearing up the fact that you endorse that..

Wouldn't that depend on the individual listener and viewer?
If the CBC, went off the air right now, absolutly nothing would change... Kids would still go to school, everybody would still go to work (except CBC types), factories would keep operating, trucks would still keep deliverying stuff etc etc NOTHING WOULD CHANGE...
So why are we supporting the CBC when they add absolutly NO value to the Canadian Taxpayers????????

CTV and Global both receive federal subsidies for programming. So you're wrong, I am actually paying for the channels that you watch.

Exactly who do you think is granting this special status?
The gov't in conjunction with bribed companies. To allow a special few the right to leave work at the drop of a hat, without fear of admonishment.

A special status not enjoyed by the whole of the populace.

Durry you have no idea what you are talking about. The CBC broadcasts in French and English and about seven or eight
aboriginal languages. In a lot of areas up north, CBC is all there is.
