Trudeau planning social welfare system overhaul

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is weighing sweeping changes to Canada’s social welfare system and a series of economic measures that will align the country with ambitious climate goals.

The economic recovery plan to bolster the social safety net will especially help those hurt most by the pandemic and come after Trudeau replaced a fiscally cautious finance minister.

Trudeau said the pandemic had unmasked “fundamental gaps” in society and the country needed a long-term recovery plan that addressed the issues “head on.”

“This is our chance to build a more resilient Canada, a Canada that is healthier and safer, greener and more competitive, a Canada that is more welcoming and more fair,” he said on Tuesday, after the cabinet shuffle.

He pretty much has to head into Ndp/green territory.

The federal separatist parties are only interested in causing as much disruption as they can. They don't have to worry about Canada or our future..

Peter Mackay is the man for the job. He is from the maritimes, his party will have support from the west, and Ontario's popular vote is almost stronger than the Liberal vote.

For once in the history of Canada, we will have a Prime Minister and a government that relies on unity instead of divisionism.

Meanwhile 30,000 civil servants enter their 6th month of paid leave. This is really going to bugger up their holidays. Time off credited to the pension no doubt.

Sorry Peter McKay is just more of the same, call for the airplane. Born into entitlement and thinks that is what life is all about.

Needs to be a woman. Men are no longer believable.

The taps are really going to be turned on,” said a fiscally conservative Liberal who is concerned that spending could get out of hand. “That’s the biggest risk….”

Freeland, a former journalist who as foreign minister was Canada’s lead negotiator for a new North American trade deal, on Tuesday said she wanted a restart plan that was green, fair and inclusive.

“She is a social interventionist activist, so she believes in the power of government and also believes in the redirection of funds to those who need it most,” said one Liberal who has worked closely with Freeland. Canada’s budget deficit this fiscal year is forecast to hit C$343.2 billion, the largest since World War Two."

Which will now be the mark they can use to say , We are reducing the deficit , all the while running close to the same on a yearly basis . So sad .

We're talking Peter, son of Elmer? The one who called for the helicopter on his camping trip? Private jet from Ottawa to Kitchener to cut a ribbon? Whatever. It's not like it is going to change. Wasn't he dating Stronach at one time? More elitism is what we'll see from Peter. Just as bad as Justin.

Hard to remember the last time someone won an election versus someone losing the election.

There are no leaders among the conservatives.

In case there was any doubt.

In other words, like the Democrats in the U.S. they want more people to rely on government hand outs rather than being self sufficient - like working. Oh great. Another "good" idea from the JT. Seriously? What a doofus. How about making it easier for businesses to hire people so that they can make an honest living. Ah, that's not a feasible option apparently. You can see how people react when "holed up" for a period of time - they start doing things they wouldn't normally do. So sure, revamp the welfare system so that it not only pays more but more people will need it. Hell, we have lots of money - debt is an option that should be taken advantage of because we won't have to pay it off - our children, their children and their children's children will have to thus lowering their standard of living. Atta go guy!

Actually, I believe O'Tool is the first real conservative we've had for quite awhile that will be an excellent leader and he's arrived just at the right time. We desperately need someone with integrity and a no B.S. attitude to get us back to where we need to be. The world is on fire right now and we need a strong leader to "steer the ship" so to speak. There isn't anyone else (Lib or Con) that I would want leading our country.
