Well I am glad this thread attracted some attention. The identical thread I started yesterday didn't. I'll repost my original comment here.

After years of corporate tax cuts we have Bombardier laying off 3000 employees and tranferring the jobs to Mexico.
It's Polaris who owns Bombardier Recreational Products closing up shop and heading south. Bombardier is staying put.

Does this mean the Can-Am will be made in Mexico too?

If Maxine Bernier wins the Conservative leadership race, corporate welfare will become a major election issue in the next federal election because Bernier is quite vocal about that.

Leitch would give corporate welfare only to CEOs who can pass a Canadian values test.

Here's a thought; regardless of who owns the damn thing why can't the Canadian taxpayer recoup SOME of their contributions to Bombardier who presumably reaped some profit from this divisions sale to Polaris.

Every time we turned around in the 80's and 90's, we heard how the gov't was giving one grant or another to that company. One of their little donations was to offset costs for Bombardier to develope "green" lawnmowers (failed by the way) fer chrissake! They want to develope something FOOT THE DAMN COSTS THEMSELVES! Sheesh.

Rant over.
"Green" lawnmowers? Those have been out for decades. They're called electric mowers.

Bernier appears to be the man we need.

We used to refer to them as "the sheep" or as "the goats".

Bombardier’s senior executives saw their compensation rise by nearly 50 per cent last year at a time when it laid off thousands of workers, sought government aid and saw the first CSeries passenger jet take flight.

Total compensation for the Montreal-based company’s top five executives and board chairman Pierre Beaudoin was US$32.6 million in 2016, up from US$21.9 million the year before, according to a proxy circular ahead of its May 11 annual meeting.

CEO Alain Bellemare received US$9.5 million, up from US$6.4 million in 2015, including US$5.2 million in share and option-based awards and a US$1 million salary.

I know it's not due to their efficiency!! Toronto should have thinner skin and cancel the disastrous streetcar contract. The delays are a huge joke now. Are they mocking Toronto or simply don't give a s#it?

Trudeau defends Bombardier aid after executive compensation rose last year

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard were peppered with questions Thursday about their aid packages for Bombardier after the company's senior executives saw their compensation rise by nearly 50 per cent last year.

After touring a Magna auto parts facility in Brampton, Ont., Trudeau was asked several times how he can justify the $372.5-million loan package announced in February for Bombardier's CSeries and Global 7000 aircraft programs.

"We respect the free market and the choices that companies will make," Trudeau said. "But we also have a responsibility to ensure that the investments we make with taxpayers' dollars are leading to good jobs and growth".

"Fundamentally, it concerns the company and its shareholders," said Couillard, whose government has provided a US$1-billion investment in the CSeries in exchange for a 49.5 per cent stake. But he questioned, from an employee standpoint, whether the timing behind such raises and the message it sends was "well chosen."

Quebec Economy Minister Dominique Anglade was more forthright in her comments.

"If I were Bombardier, I would think about the message I am sending the population today," she said in question period. "I can understand people being unhappy and upset."

The three opposition parties represented in the national assembly -- the Parti Quebecois, the Coalition for Quebec's Future and Quebec solidaire -- asked the government to voice its objection to the hikes.

PQ Leader Jean-Francois Lisee said the company's top executives should not be allowed to get the extra millions in remuneration.
"This is a slap in the face for Quebecers," Lisee said. "There is a kind of organized indecency at the top of big companies where people give themselves salary increases after destroying the bread and butter of thousands of Quebecers."

Meanwhile, Quebec's pension-fund manager, which holds 30 per cent of Bombardier Transportation and about 47.6 million shares in the company, did not comment directly on the increases but noted the importance of the "link between performance and remuneration."

"That is the case for every company in which we invest, including Bombardier," said Maxime Chagnon, senior director of media relations at the Caisse de depot et placement.

"We will thoroughly analyze the proxy circular that was sent to shareholders.

The corruption of those Bombardier officers is incredibly brazen. I wonder how much of that gets kicked back to Liberal party coffers?

An extra bonus for a job well done. They are rewarded for successfully swindling more millions from the people of Canada (thanks Little Potato) and the people of Quebec (who actually have now paid twice since they are currently still Canadians).

It's a big, fat bonus for delivering a solitary trolley car to Toronto, within a decade of the due-date.

Any bets that the CEO of Bombardier is appointed to the Senate by a Liberal when he retires?

B... b... but the poor benefit so much from this! Without subsidies, Bombardier products would be even more expensive. How else is a destitute person counting his nickles supposed to afford to buy a Bombardier product?
