You lie down with dogs...and you wake up with fleas.

Canada has a few extremely wealthy Muslims.
I agree with other posters, surely a wealthy Canadian Muslim could do the "right thing" and rescue a true believer.

Trex

Trex, I am afraid it is not that simple, another thought just occurred to me. A logical extension of my previous thought, really. That is the problem with possessing capacity for logical, rational thought, sometimes one sees the demons that may not be there.

I wonder if we are not being subject to a gigantic hoax, a very clever con game. Suppose a Muslim businessman, Mr. Ahmed (a fictitious name) pays the ransom of 375, 000 US $, or 450,000 Canadian dollars.

What will be the general reaction? It may be neutral, some people may even compliment Mr. Ahmed, may praise him for saving a human life. But surely nobody will condemn him for rescuing that woman.

However, forget about the fake kidnapping and look at what just happened here. A Muslim business man donated (not paid the ransom, but donated) 450,000 $ to Taliban, with the whole world watching, right out in the open.

Nobody condemned him for giving money to Taliban, some people even praised him for doing so.

Now, suppose there was no smoke and mirror kidnapping, and Mr. Ahmed had donated 450,000 $ to Taliban. What would have happened? All hell would have broken lose. He would have been condemned universally, government would have investigated him for possible connection with Taliban, or with Osama bin Laden. It is quite possible he may have been charged under some law for donating the money to Taliban.

Instead of that, nobody condemns him here, on the contrary, Mr. Ahmed is a hero to many people, for saving the life of a woman.

So in effect Mr. Ahmed has donated money to Taliban right in the open and had people praise him for doing so.

So I really wonder if we are the victims of a gigantic con game, a brilliant swindle, a very clever hoax.

Anyway, it would be interesting to see if a Muslim steps forward to pay the ransom (or perhaps more accurately, donate the money to Taliban).

Four more Canadian soldiers were killed today by two separate roadside bombs. I guess they are getting the money for dynamite somewhere. I have little sympathy for the Taliban or for Beverly Giesbrecht. I sure as hell don't advocate paying a bloody ransom to get this dopey woman back. How do we know that she isn't working in concert with the Taliban? A few years ago we lost a lady photographer in Iran. This woman was an internationally accredited photographer who was arrested and beaten to death by Iranian police. If we couldn't get this woman back alive, why are we trying to get Giesbrecht back?

Another thought occurred to me. How do we know she has been kidnapped? She obviously agrees with her kidnappers. Is this perhaps a fund raising effort by her? Has this been a plot cooked up by Taliban and Beverley to raise some money for Taliban?

It wouldn’t surprise me if the whole thing is a swindle, a con game to raise some money for Taliban.
SirJoe,
You missed that thought in my post?

They ARE gangs.....they want money to buy ammunition to fire at Canadian soldiers...........why I say 'what a shame about her head......even though it is obviously empty.
The real people who want to shoot Canadians don't need ransom for money. $350K won't buy **** in arms. Every time someone tanks up with Saudi oil in the US they are paying for arms in 10 or 20 million dollar lots . $350K is peanuts to the Saudi's who are bankrolling this ****. A "fanatic" "by the Koran Jihadi" doesn't ask for ransom, they have deluxe funding and are far more cunning and devious than kidnapping for ransom.

Maybe so, but not beyond the realm of possibility.

CSIS probably isn't clever enough, but........MI-5. If this was a Brit thing, it would be right up their alley.

Or maybe an Arcey-mp plant. If so, she's definitely screwed (figuratively speaking)

Why only figuratively? This whole story reminds me of Patty Hearst.

If she is a CSIS operative, then she very well knew what the job entailed before she left for Pakistan, and she probably is mentally prepared for death. So it isn’t really necessary to pay ransom to terrorists to get her out.

Honestly...and I do mean honestly here, I wouldn't give CSIS that much credit to begin with.

As I've heard from a few Law Enforcement officers, including my Father, an ex RCMP Officer. CSIS couldn't find it's ass in broad daylight with a map, a flashlight and the help of a 60 year old veteran hooker.

I wonder if she's really being held by religious fanatics or by one of the clans that have specialised/made their living from kidnapping for so long in that area of the world?

Was she kidnapped by one group and sold to another like this diplomats in Africa?

Is the whole deal a scam/extortion plot and if so is she in on it?

I hope we don't pay the ransom. For one thing, it would open the floodgates and you would see people start getting kidnapped left and right and threatened with decapitation. Not a good precedent to start.

She sure sounds like a wonderful human being, though.

Its already been happening for the last 8 years in Iraq and A-stan and decades elsewhere...

Personally, I hope she gets loose and comes home.....so much fun to see if her attitude has changed, or if she still is in love with the idea of Jihad.

Colpy, what will you bet that if by some miracle she manages to return to Canada she will continue to hold the same views as before?

She is a twisted, sick personality. Such personality does not see the world logically. Who knows, she may even find reinforcement of her views in her ordeal and may come back even stronger, more virulent, more hate filled Fundamentalist Muslim.

I was thinking the same thing, if she is in that state of mind she could quite easily use this to reinforce her beliefs. IE they were forced to do it due to American oppression or she was a martyr for the greater good. Stockholm syndrome may also come into effect the longer she is with them.

This does remind me of the case of the American woman married to an Iraqi that worked as a humanitarian in Iraq and was subsequently shot to death.
