When Walla Walla sweet onions are in season, try a sandwich of sliced Walla Walla onion, mayo, sharp cheddar cheese, and salt and pepper on fresh rye bread.

hey, you are eating my sandwitch, but I have it on homemade wholewheat bread, then put
in the sandwitch toaster just a little bit, don't like the cheese melted.

The best sandwich I ever had was freshly smoked Bella Coola salmon on bread out of the oven and homemade butter. The lettuce and tomatoes were out of the garden too. It was amazing.

The cook acted like it was nothing; "ho hum, I have these all the time."

This is an older topic but there are a few great sandwiches on it. Sadly, a lot of the posters are not with us anymore. Let's
see some of your favorite sandwiches.

One of our favourite sandwitches/bunwitches we take out for our lunches is:

thick sliced 'genoa' regular, not hot salami, provolone cheese, sliced raw onions, butter, pile the salami on,
don't be shy, one good round slab of provolone topped with the onions, pepper but no salt,
not with salami, quite salty enough.

tall glass of cold milk, tastes wonderful.

not for every day, a bit too much cholestrol, but certainly once every two
weeks or so.

The old standby BLT with mayo is one of my favorites, using a good, fresh. whole wheat bread and
beefsteak tomatoes if you can find any.

yum, just saw some beefsteak tomatoes in quality foods today.
That is good news. I've tried to grow them for a couple years and I seem to get enough fruit but
before they are ripe they get blighted out....everything goes rotten. I was told by the guy at
the big nursery that it was blight.

Yep, I love them too, as a matter of fact about the only sandwich I prefer to that is head cheese and mustard on multigrain bread.

my tomatoes have been doing that for a couple of years, this year i'm going to grow them in pots
close to the house, where I can baby them, if they still croak, i'll give up.

I scramble some eggs, then form them into two omellete looking big patties, put them in buttered
large calebrese bun, sliced raw onion on top, salt and pepper, and eat right away.

fresh turkey/chicken, stuffing, cranberry sauce, between two slices of homemade bread.

I make many great sandwiches. Anything topped with random veggies like cucumber, lettuce or red peppers as well as some hot honey mustard. Stick it in the panini machine and it's great.
Although my favorite is bacon. Yep, just bacon. Some nice butcher shop bacon, light rye toasted then apply bacon, fried medium. That's right. No paper towel for this bacon just get it on that unbuttered rye bread and squish the whole thing down.
OK. I'll be in the kitchen for the next half hour or so.

Sliced avocado, tomatoes, red onion, spinach, whole seed mustard, jalopena havarti, and genoa salami on rye. Now I'm hungry, with about 30 minutes before I can leave work and go home...

That actually sounds pretty good.

Anybody for peanut butter and jam with chocolate chips?

I believe the "blight" can be avoided by keeping the plants from being rained on. I switched to a cold frame years ago here because i simply did not get any tomatoes like yourself. No problem since.
Same problem as with Peaches on the coast. My two Peach trees are under an overhang and produce very well but any branches and leaves that get rained on get serious leaf curl and don't produce.
Always wondered what was in the rain here to cause that.

Yuck, gross, especially when the choice of head cheese and mustard is available!

You can say "yuck" when you are advocating bloody "headcheese"..........:smile:

I know, about a year ago I asked the fellow at the deli counter if I could have a little sample to
try, he said sure, and handed me a bit, then he watched me very intently as I made an awful face
and gagged, and handed him back the little piece remaining, so he could toss it. lol
