Hi Mowich, just curious about your moniker- "mowitch" is the term for deer in some Native Indian tongues and I thought at first that's what your moniker meant until I noticed the difference in spelling.........any connection?

As a matter of fact you are right. I was reading a book by David Thompson in which he gave translation for many Shushwap words. He spelled their word for 'deer' - mowich. Deer represents gentleness to many who believe in animal totems. I liked that and decided to use mowich as my online moniker.

Deer also represents beauty and innocence.

When I lived up in Cottonwood House (on the Barkerville highway) I fought fire and tree planted up in the Likely and Horsefly areas. I've been to Quesnel Forks and Hydraulic. A bunch of us bush hippies seriously thought of moving into Quesnel Forks as in the seventies many of the houses were still livable.

Have been to all those areas over the years. I love old historical settlements. Quesnel Forks as I recall is a very pretty place and there were the ruins of buildings when we visited in the 90s.

And Wolf is the Teacher whereas Dog is loyalty. At least that is what I have learned from Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams and David Carson. Deer is actually one of my nine personal totems and represents Below on my spread.

My usual reply is, "sky, ceiling, opposite of down".

I have a couple doodem, too: waagoshiinh and nigig are a couple. :) But I think different peoples have different doodem for different animals.

I found it. Was that David Thompson the explorer? Didn't realize he was an author too.

My contribution doesn't really fit in with the bright ones (and confusing ones)...written down but I wanted to add something which gets me in a twist and it is used so often.

It is a kind phrase I believe and if delivered it is well-meant as a send off or a temporary goodby from a person who is being nice..... but what does it mean????

"take care...."

How did that one get going? Now it seems habitual....rather than goodbye or even
a more common one "have a nice day"..... but "take care" of what, whom, which ???

Confused curio

Hey, Curio- there are "bigger fish to fry", it's less important to delve into the literal meaning, than it is just to enjoy the fact that people care about you. We get too tied up with semantics these days. What it means is "take care of yourself"............NOW HAVE A NICE DAY AND TAKE CARE:lol::lol::lol:

JLM - you are a tease! Take care yourself and have a great Saturday...... lol

Personally I always think "take care" means "stay out of trouble"...which is my usual modus operandi for a regular day in my life.... (or walking into walls on occcasion!).

"Goodbye" is the shortened form of "God be with three." Frankly, "Goodbye" has lost its meaning. I for one prefer "Take care!"

Quite right, spade. My mistake. Word 'sow' has two meanings (and two ways to say it), I had forgotten the other meaning.

All-sow: (also - joke - got it?)

sew......as in sew my new blue jeans
sow......sow the crops
sow......a female pig. You might know a few of them.

I mean this in the nicest possible way.

Awww, Curio; that's one of my favourites. Said only to someone one cares about; not wishing them to come to harm.

ergo:

take care.:hello2:
