Who determines what a symbol means in the law?

For example, a Swastika means something very different to a Nazi, a Jain, a Buddhist, and a Hindu. Even in pre-Nazi Europe, many Europeans used the Swastika. A case in point is Rudyard Kipling. He is well known as a British Imperialist of the traditional variety, which were firmly anti-Nazi. At one point he had the Swastika removed from one of his books as Nazism was growing so as to not be associated with its ideology. I remember reading about another occasion when underneath the floor of a church they'd found an older floor covered with a repetitive pattern of Swastikas and it pre-dated Nazi Germany.

Machjo... there is a town hall here in Massachusetts that has a HUGE black tiled swastika that was built long before the Nazi's adopted that as a symbol. It was a sign of good luck for local Indian tribes and was incorporated in the Town Hall design.

It has been covered up by a rug and it is protected by the Town's Historical Society. It can only be uncovered by special request. I saw a picture of it and like I said... it is HUGE!

As for the symbol on the Swiss Army knife, I'm guessing it's the national cross, the one found on the Swiss Flag, and not necessarily having to do with the Christian Faith.

On another point, seeing that the Union Flag is a design of three overlapping crosses (St. George's Cross, St. Andrew's Cross, and St. David's Cross). The Union Flag appears as part of some provincial flags. So, should we remove it because it's triply religious?

Absolutely none in the USA. And the anti-religious nutcases can take their protest ans shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Both the cross and references to God are as intertwined with medicine as anything ever has been.

I spent 10 years as a US Army Medic by the way, much of that time in major Army Hospitals.

Another reason to ban all regligious stuff from hospitals and public places. No Satan without g/God, so ridding ourselves of one, gets rid of the other. A twofer. Good deal.

Why doesn't the g/God do something really g/Godlike that only it can do on a semi regular basis to prove its existence for us little people? If only to get its supporters to shut the **** up.

And I think you have to use the quote click. Why wouldn't dolphin be a scientific word? Dolphins are a species. Yeah, a KW is a dolphin. So all orcas are dolphins but not all dolphins are orcas.

Dolphins refers to a family of animals. There are many species of dolphins. Orca is a species of dolphin and the largest.

Back to the OP: in a multi-cultural society, religious symbols representing only on segment of the religious population are irrelevant. Strictly Christian symbols on any public building is an affront to people of other faiths. I suppose you could grandfather the symbols in that crest, but it really isn't fair to others.
