Re: taxing exports: that's fine but then if the cost of the goods being exported are too expensive, why would anyone buy from us? There are consequences to that as well. Besides, are any exports taxed now? Aren't tariffs a tax?
Of course. There are going to be negatives to anything you do. But if we are going to export raw materials the export tax should at least be equal to the loss to our economy from making a finished product here. We also have to rethink import taxes. Free trade only really works when the countries involved have roughly the same standard of living and environmental laws.
This one works both ways. Almost no fibreglass boats are built in Canada anymore because the environmental laws here make it less expensive to build them in Vietnam and other Asian countries. The flipside of that one is The company I work for has a subsidiary that builds steel disposal containers and are selling lots of them into California. I know one of the welders there and she said it is because the coatings that businesses in California want can't be applied there. But they can be used here.

Does Alaska still pay citizens a cut of oil royalties? What have they been doing right that we are not copying?
Canada has a vast amount of commodities to export but we don't seem to be getting much back for them aside from jobs. I think we can do better. Right now aprox 50% of our income is eaten up by governments in one form or another and we are not getting good value for the money.
No...

Oh SLAVE..................I believe YOU ARE WELL OFF the mark on boat building in Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The issue is ONE OF LABOUR COSTS...........................

NOT because of environmental laws!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free trade has opened up all manner of biz that simply did not exist 20 - 40 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After all - 40 years ago Viet Nam was still an ENEMY COMMUNIST NATION - hostile to democracy and capitalism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And 40 -odd years ago Viets were focused on rebuilding their war torn country and did not have the time to build luxury items for rich capitalists!!!!!!!

But several decades back - once things were more stabilized - Viet leaders followed the Red Chinese lead and opened up their

economy to capitalist reforms - and along the way Viet Nam earned "Most favoured nation" trading status with United States!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It probably did not hurt that Viet troops were the ones who took out the MURDEROUS POL POT/ Khymer Rouge regime....................

and thus rather rehabilitated themselves in Yankee eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There were several boat builders in the Ontari-owe Durham Region but they all withered and died when the Cdn dollar reached $1.05

U.S. - and KILLED ANY CHANCE at an export market!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And of course the market for BIG boats- 30ft and over IS SHRINKING anyway - mooring fees and winter storage and the gas bills

keep mounting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Labour costs and economics are the guide for building boats - not environmental laws - not in Durham Region anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just take a stroll through the boats for sale section of Craiglist or Kijiji when spring rolls around -PLENTY OF GOOD USED BOATS...

of all sorts for sale - with NOT so many buyers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why buy new when you can get GOOD USED at a FRACTION of the price????????????????????????

Lord Thunderous Bay , you expect her to move ? Have you no heart and soul .

WELL GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are talking about STANDARD LIE-beral policy there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIE-berals DESPISE the standard suburban model!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In part because of all the new costly new infrastructure that

LIE-berals need to build in such places!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Such as MORE sewer and water pipes - when LIE-berals cannot even maintain the existing rotted out pipes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Such as the need for more public transit - even as LIE-berals struggle to maintain the existing stock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More cops, more fire trucks, more schools , more parks and the employees to maintain it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALL THESE THING cut into LIE-beral gravy supplies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIE-berals DEMAND that we all move into little concrete boxes rented in the concrete canyons of the nearest city!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That way we can be compelled to MOVE AS NECESSARY - to suit LIE-berals - and we will not be anchored to a specific chunk of

real estate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIE-berals KNOW - that the future job market will be a churning short term, temporary, often limited contract MESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After all - Our idiot Boy TOLD US to expect this gig economy in 2016 in one of his RARE FITS OF HONESTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And since powerful political interests CONTROL so much of our rental stock - IT WILL BENEFIT LIE-berals and their pals..............

if we are all forced to RENT FROM THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At PRICES THEY HAVE SET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont kid yourself. Some shit has 200%+ duties, then tariffs then GST and PST.

Yep we could be buying Solar panels for $0.50/watt instead of $1.00-$1.50/watt, to protect Quebec solar companies, just 1 example

p.s. There is always the Gyprock example as well ;)

Apparently you aint paying attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alaska govt collects royalties and then issues payments direct to citizens.....................

with the payment rates fluctuating along with the price of oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then Alaskan citizens buy their own health care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alberta on the other hand remits its royalties to Ottawa....................................

and Ottawa rakes off a nice pile of gravy and then doles out the REMAINING royalties to the provinces.........................

who then RAKE OFF some MORE gravy for their HOGS and then use what is left of the royalties........................................

to buy health care FOR US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah????????????????????????

How about you name some sh+t with 200% duties??????????????????????

And if it is revealed that such duties all apply to the most loathsome of third world dictatorships.................................................

and the world wide WORST of tax cheats and currency manipulators..........................................

I WILL NOT be surprised!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The number of nations that enjoy "Most favoured nation" trading status with BOTH....................................

Canada and United States - meaning NO TARIFFS at all IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not all boats idiotchild. Just fibreglass. And it aint because of labour costs. Just take a look at the environmental rules and worksafe rules in Canada then compare to third world countries.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tax Slob wants rational thoughts about taxes.......................

and then PROVES he does not recognize such rational thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Simply google "Cdn makers of fibreglass pipes and tanks"....................................

and you get a SUBSTANTIAL LIST of such fibreglass product manufacturers in the Toronto area!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And WHAT is the difference between a fibreglass boat and a fibreglass fluid holding tank????????????????????????

Why..................NOTHING..........................except that one holds fluid in...............................

and the other holds fluid out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for your thoughts on Cdn fibreglass boats................................

it seems your mind is like a fibreglass sewage tank - holding some sh+t IN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There used to be a company on Railside Road in Toronto that made all sorts of fibreglass stuff..............................

from chairs to massive pipes and tanks and flanges for chemical operations........................

and they also made rear window frames and various frame pieces for TTC buses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The owner is now long dead and I think the company closed down as a result...................or it may still be operating under a new

name - or in a new location!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The work force was VIRTUALLY ENTIRELY IMMIGRANT - and NOT ALL OF THEM had papers either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free trade has now made it EASIER AND CHEAPER to take the work to Peru.......................

than to bring the illegal Peruvians to Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And a bunch of company Peruvians GOT A QUICK TRIP BACK to Peru when it was discovered that the late shift..................................

was using company phones to call home on the company dime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boat building is just like car making..................................

it is HIGHLY SENSITIVE to the bottom line..................................

and EASILY EXPORTED to third world countries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HEY IDIOT BOI YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAVE YOU BEEN SNIFFING acetone??????????????

At a fibreglass production facility recently??????????

Sure sounds like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Campion Boats is currently the largest Cdn maker of fibreglass boats here in Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Qr you could have a look at the Rossiter Boats catalogue with its nice collection of fibreglass boats............................

a nice collection of kayaks, sailing boats and row boats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rossiter gave up making wooden boats some years back - to labour intensive for one thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And getting high enough quality wood was another obstacle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rossitter has been based in Collingwood Ont for nearly a century!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or you could have a look at the Langford Canoe web site although they seem to be moving over to kevlar and carbon fibre production

as it produces much lighter AND STRONGER boats than fibreglass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or we could talk about Angus Boats - and they are some place in B.C. as I recall.................................

and they make an interesting range of of fibreglass rowboats, racing shells, expedition type boats and have branched out into

building cruising sailboats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh dear me............................FOUR CDN fibreglass boat makers found in a minute found right off the top of my head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course it is possible that some of these companies make "CDN" BOATS the same way General motors makes "CDN" cars!!!!!!!!!!!

By getting a LOT of the work done overseas some place- in a CHEAPER THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT HEY..................why shouldnt Cdn boat makers do as all other industries do and import cheaper parts at least!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Juts look at Bombardier being IN TROUBLE with Toronto Transit Commission because OF FAULTY FRAME WELDS.....................

that were DONE BY the Bombardier MEXICAN subsidiary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now all the street cars that Bombardier FINALLY DELIVERED.............................YEARS LATE.................................

HAVE TO BE SHIPPED BACK TO QUEBEC to BE REPAIRED by MORE SKILLED WELDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The BIGGEST THREAT to Cdn democracy and the greatest obstacle to a healthy economy..........................

IS A PACK OF CIVIL SERVICE UNION HOGS explaining to the rest of us why THEY THINK...........................

THEY ARE SO DAMNED ENTITLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
