Anti-Trudeau, anti-racism clash in Toronto; four arrested

A group of anti-Trudeau protesters and anti-racism counter-demonstrators clashed in Toronto on Saturday.

According to organizers, the anti-Trudeau protest was planned as a means of expressing displeasure with the Liberal government’s tax policies, spending and controversial multi-million dollar settlement with former Guantanamo Bay inmate Omar Khadr.

Held at Nathan Phillips Square, the protest was met by counter-demonstrators who accused the former group of using an anti-Trudeau stance as a veneer for far-right and racist views.

“There’s many people, many Canadians that oppose Justin Trudeau and what he’s doing right now, and I wanted give people an opportunity to come together, voice their opinion, meet other like-minded Canadians,” Ronny Cameron, who helped organized the ‘Let Trudeau Know He Has To Go!’ rally, told CP24.

“And, unfortunately, Antifa shows up and tries to make it seem like we’re a bunch of racists -- and we’re obviously not.”
Cameron, a self-described “political activist and social commentator,” uses his social media accounts to espouse anti-Islam and other far-right opinions.

Sarah Khan, a counter-demonstrator and a member of the group, “SAFE: Solidarity Against Fascism Everywhere,” said that right-wing activists like Cameron are using concerns about the federal Liberals to mask their true intentions.

You know those kind of people who freak out when you call them racists, but they say racist things all the time? Yeah, this is the kind of people we’re dealing with.
Meet Ronny Cameron, failed metalist turned xenophobe who is now trying to rally a conglomeration of far right wing fascist groups, his latest attempt failed on May 6, 2017 when the fascists were unable to march due to a strong counter-demonstration.

He is also infatuated with the Jewish Defense League (you know that extremist group that recently beat up a 50 something year old professor because he was Arabic?). Did I make the organizer of an anti-muslim protest make favorable speeches to a Jewish group, no. You are pissed all the time so it hardly matters what the topic of my post is. Hundreds gathered at the downtown space Saturday afternoon after the event advertised on Facebook as "Let Trudeau know he has go to go!"

The page describes the goal of the rally as expressing opposition to everything from "soaring taxes to out of control spending" to the recent $10-million paid by the federal government to former Guantanamo Bay inmate Omar Khadr.

The event was not billed as anti-immigrant or anti-Islam and was marketed by organizer Ronny Cameron on his website as "exclusively about Justin Trudeau and all of the irresponsible decisions he has made as Prime Minister."

"Our economy is stagnant, our taxes are through the roof, our borders are being treated like door mats, free speech infringing motions like M-103 and bill C-16 have been passed, and worst of all we have a Prime Minister who displays nothing but contempt for our history and culture," the website reads.


But groups organizing against the event claimed the true intention behind it was "to normalize fear and hatred of Muslims and refugees.""They may be out here to criticize Trudeau, but they're actually out here to say, 'We can't have refugees,'" said Sarah Ali, a member of Solidarity Against Facism Everywhere, which organized the counter demonstration along with Toronto General Defence Committee.

Ali and her antifa groups are obviously lacking in the basic rudiments of literacy. Else how to explain their complete incomprehension of the stated goals of the protest? Or, maybe there is something more sinister at work here and that would be the muzzling of anyone with an opinion that does not fall within the narrow confines of their ideology.
