ummmm...ok. Your point?:-?

If DaSleeper will forgive me....I think the accusation of hypocrisy was aimed at Sir joseph Porter.....not you.

We all know you hate everything EVERY American does, so you are at least consistent.

I thought our friend Das was referring to the line high-lighted in my post.

If bribery is involved, there is.

Not if the government of the country regards bribery as a legitimate means of getting prisoners released. If bribery is illegal in Haiti, so be it. But I think Haitian government probably will welcome some bribery (in the form of relief aid) in return for prisoner release.

That is roughly the going rate a friend of mines is adopting a little girl from Poland and so far it has cost them $45,000. You can adopt minority babies much cheaper.

Also, I think older the baby, cheaper it is to adopt. Hardly anybody wants a 9 or 10 year old child.

If it were "Bushco" doin' it.......I'm sure you would have a different opinion with a whole lot of different reasons to attack it..

Why would I have a different opinion? It is not a left/right issue. The problem with 'Bushco' would have been that they had so little credibility, so little goodwill around the world that I don't see a Bush diplomat being able to get any prisoner released (unless Bush resorted to gunboat diplomacy).

They are just mad because Anjelina did not put a bid in!
These people in Haitii do not need adoption, they need education, respect, and understanding..

They need education, respect, understanding AND adoption, especially in the case of orphans. However what the Baptists did, was not the way to go. But seeing that their intentions were not to harm the children, I think they should be shown mercy, after they have been found guilty.

And I suppose you want us to believe that you are not opinionated. Could it be that you are suffering from little brother syndrome? If you pay fifty thousand dollars for a baby what the fork else would you call it except a purchase? Did you adopt your last car?:p

I never claimed to not be opinionated.

You, on the other hand, seem to believe that $50,000 was handed to some parents in return for a child. If you had even the slightest hint of a clue what you are talking about, you would know that's not the case.

Sure!! That outta dispel any concerns for peeps that donated money towards relief programs in Haiti run by thier gov.

Heres an idea....Haiti could sell those homeless kids abroad at say, $20,000 a pop? (of course prices lowered depending on age brackets.) Heck they`d have that palace up and running full tilt in no time!

I think there is so much relief aid already there or heading there that there is no need for bribery.

Isn't that for Haiti to decide? And if they wanted to do it, sure they could do it. There will be a huge international outcry, but what is going to stop them?

2100+ Kids go missing daily in the US of A, over 80,000 year.

You do understand the meaning though right? There are about 80K reported missing but that does not mean they have vanished.

If a kid runs away...thats one.

A single parent reports to the police that her/his ex-spouse failed to bring their child back at the required time...that's another.

Even if they find the runaway or deliquent child it is still in the stat of a reported missing child.

Just so you know.

How many of those become part of the 'vanished'? I have no idea what the stats are for here in Canada but I assume we have some in that classification.
I bet I can even identify which social network has the highest percentage.

*US Suceed in Bribing Haitian Officials...Kidnappers Released* (did US threaten sanctions against the country, I wonder?)

The U.S. and Haitian governments are holding *talks* on the fate of 10 American missionaries accused of illegally trying to take children out of the quake-hit Caribbean country, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Wednesday.

Haitian authorities said they would decide today whether to pursue a case against the missionaries, who were arrested on Friday trying to cross into the Dominican Republic with a busload of 33 children they said were orphaned by the quake.

In Washington, Clinton said for the first time the two governments were discussing the case, diplomatically sensitive because the U.S. is heading a massive relief operation after the earthquake wrecked the capital, Port-au-Prince, and killed up to 200,000 people.

The State Department, which has been at pains to avoid any impression it might be interfering in the matter, said Tuesday it had not been involved in any broad discussions about the missionaries' case or any possible prosecution.

The accused missionaries vehemently deny they were engaged in child trafficking.

They said they were just trying to help some of the thousands of orphans left destitute and abandoned by the quake.

"It was unfortunate, whatever the motivation, that this group of Americans took matters into their own hands," Clinton said.

Haitian officials said the detained Americans, most of whom belong to an Idahobased Baptist church, had no documents proving the children were orphans and no official permission to take them out of the country, which meant the group faced possible kidnapping charges.

The missionaries were questioned by a judge Tuesday and Wednesday, the prosecutor in the case, Mazarre Fortil, said. "Tomorrow, my decision will be known. Tomorrow, everybody will know what we decide," Fortil said.

Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive said on Wednesday the case was stealing attention from the plight of Haitians.

Haven't I been saying all along that this would happen? What is so surprising about it? Chances are they will be released, the question is only at what stage, right away or after the trial.

You can believe in whatever conspiracies that you wish; however, on the face of it, a thinking person would say that the judges looked at the situation and determined that what these people were trying to do was wrong, and broke all kinds of laws, they had good intentions, and therefore decided to be lenient.

The kidnappers were released earlier this morning/last night from what I understand....and of course not surprising. It was release them or suffer the consequences from US ie holding back aid, medicine etc.
