I spend more time getting my news from Aljazeera English TV these days because it is far less patisan, and much more informed, than the usual networks. They report on Libya, Syria etc and not once will they blame the US or inject biased rhetoric. If you haven't watched I recommend you give it a try.

I simply can't stand watching MSNBC (a wing of the Democrats) and Fox (a wing of the Republicans). Both of those networks exemplify everything that is wrong with politics and news TV.

There is no such thing as a neutral position. You can attempt to hold on to neutrality as long as you want but ultimately you will have to pick a side because it's impossible to have it both ways. And if you go down the line on all the issues and make a conclusion on each one, the pattern will reveal whether your right, left, have a religion or don't have a religion.

The reason why people try to claim the neutral position is because they think neutrality equals OBJECTIVITY. But this isn't true. People can be objective even when they aren't neutral. A doctor can give an objective diagnosis even if he has strong feelings for the patient. In fact, his passion for the patient may cause him to be all the more diligent in diagnosing and then treating the disease properly.

And I find it hard to believe that Aljazeera presents all the facts. How much reporting do they do on the widespread problem of Muslims persecuting non-Muslims in the Arab world? Does it even get mentioned?

If you love truth, watch Sun News. Just my opinion.

I hope you're not expecting anyone to believe that alJazeera is non-partisan.

It's a different viewpoint, yes, but to claim it's non-partisan strains at the edges of credibility.

I find the best thing to do is to view all the sources and draw your own conclusions. Obviously if you are watching FOX knowing their bias helps you understand how they are slanting their news (although if you didn't know it it would/should be obvious in short order). Same with MSNBC.

I would assume that you are watching the North American feed of Al Jasira. I assume the "Death To America" commercials are probably removed over here.

Who wants "sanitised" news.....give me the facts and some different points of view and I'll make up my own mind who to believe.

There is no network that offers this anymore. They all feel they need to 'explain' it to you. Even if the network has no 'official' bias, having the anchor discuss or ask questions of the reporter opens the door for the reporter to imprint their opinion on the subject. If the fact was important it should have just been presented in the original report. There should be no need for the anchor to query the reporter for anything.

The reason they do this is because they feel their audience is a bunch of morons and are too stupid to interpret the raw facts. I am afraid in a lot of cases they are correct.

Northern Ontario,
It is sometimes nice to have some background info, and different viewpoints, because we all have our own preconceived ideas, and another viewpoint can sometimes change one's mind if one is not too inflexible....

believe it or not I used to be a Liberal.......a longggg time ago

Even voted NDP at the provincial level......when a co-worker ran for office....and won.;-)

I too voted NDP -once. I think it was the first provincial election I voted in. Mostly because several of my friends were members of the young NDP.
Also have voted Federal Liberal on occasion, even had a membership once but that was a special deal for our local rep and probably wasn't legal according to the election act.

I really doubt anyone has spent much time watching the non-North American version. Yes, the American version. It beats watching the others for international news reporting.

I watched Al-jazeera and it was fantastic during the Egyptian revolution. I saw live footage of events occurring as masses crowded in the square, with barricades as sticks, bombs, and burning buses were hurled at each other. The pro-govt crowd/police/troops drove a bus into the anti-govt crowd and it was set on fire and the driver beaten up a bit. When the anti-govt crowd held out still, I thought, this is a tipping point because they survived this attack and eventually won. It was tense, I lost a lot of sleep in early 2011.

I like getting my news from one of Tdots dailies, then going home and get on the net and vetting the story.

Makes me feel like a fairly well informed Hardy boy.

People who watch al Jazeera for the first time often have the same reaction. They suddenly realize how crappy our news has become. Sure aJ has a slant, but its far less in your face than FoxNews and other US cable news.

Al Jazeera actually reports the news, whereas cable news has become more about what their pundits think is important, how everyone should think and why you are an idiot if you think differently than a panel of people with the same opinion. Its not even infotainment anymore. Some cable news is so out there, it seems like a parody or satire, except they are apparently serious....

Sadly I've noticed the shift as the CBC and even the BBC become more like FoxNews.

Then you watch al Jazeera and the format seems familiarly quaint, like our news was before Rupert Murdoch's influence.

You mean like your favoured UNHRC panel? Or your overly used AI, or HRW panels and their erroneous interpretations of laws?

Just looking for some clarity is all.

I watch several New Channels includng Aljazeera. To me this is the only way to get an idea of what is really going on SOMETIMES. At least Aljazeera gives us news from more than one country not like some of these local yokels.

I like to make up my own mind and when I post it here if I am wrong someone will always let me know.

Northern Ontario,
Seems to me that the only time you see bias in a tv station is when their view is opposite to yours....which doesn't mean they are wrong....it could just be you!

Oh come on, MSNBC and FOX are nothing more than political infomercials. Even when I'm on their side of an issue I can't stand to watch it slanted with their half truths and fallacies.

TV News died when it became for profit rather than a public service. You get the story or slant on the story that best sells to their demographics.

No its not you Kreskin. Our news is screwed up. If people like DaSleeper can't see it, that's their problem, not yours.
