Adolescence describes the teenage years between 13 and 19 and can be considered the transitional stage from childhood to adulthood.
The rest of that paragraph

However, the physical and psychological changes that occur in adolescence can start earlier, during the preteen or "tween" years (ages 9-12). Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can bring up issues of independence and self-identity. Sometimes adolescents may be experimenting with drugs and alcohol or sexuality. During this time, peer groups and external appearance tend to increase in importance

and don't forget the "late bloomers"....so adolescence is not age specific....

There are always exceptions to damn near everything. Over all though, the 13 to 19 rule applies when describing adolescence. Any arguing about a year or 2 in either direction is nit picking at the least, deflection at the most.

sorry, you're right. What was I thinking when I quoted a definition. I'll retract it all right now.

just coincidence:roll:

"teenager" is alright, it's a term to cover the similarities in a mathematical sense. "Adolescent" covers a pretty big swath, when in actuality a 13 year old has virtually nothing in common with a 19 year old. There is probably more variation in that 7 year life span than in any other 7 year period of life.

Well why not? They gave that teen in Texas what amounted to a slap on the wrist for killing people while driving under the influence because he was too rich to know any better.

After all the lawsuits thrown at that family are completed, they might not be that rich any more.
