No need for a petition. It's a done deal already. You have your Queen's day. We have our Patriots day, it's as simple as that.

I'm curious. I left Montreal in '72 so Patriots day was eneacted after I left. Who are the patriots being celebrated?
I don't think only lefties are for this, and many lefties are not in favour of this at all.
I talked to abut eight or nine folks I know are left of center and all them opposed it.
I have both left and right leanings on the issues of the day depending on what is
being discussed. I think this is really stupid. Its things like this that drives people
away, sort of like that Roxborough Baptist Church bunch that hate everything and
worship a loving God.
What the hell are they thinking, or are they thinking? People want a holiday they
don't care about Remembrance Day let alone about some Queens Birthday. That
does not mean a bunch of do gooders can simply change it without thought or input.
Lets see New Years is a problem because someone might have fun.
Valentines Day is too commercial,
We need a day in February "Family Day so we can introduce ourselves to each other
Easter is too Religious so we have to have the Spring fiesta or whatever
The Victoria Day is not good enough anymore
July First Canada Day is dull cause a lot of communities are too cheap with fireworks
August first we celebrate God knows what but we all go camping
Labour Day we recognize workers and then pay crap wages all year.
Thanksgiving is now a warm up to Christmas Shopping
Remembrance Day we Forget the significance of it anyway.
Christmas (Oh Can't Use that word) someone might hear you, its the winter festival.

While I am all in favor of eliminating everything connected to being a British colony "first peoples day" is a little wimpy. Might as well call it "leftards day off with pay"

We already have April 20th. Maybe we should make it a national holiday.
As for Victoria Day: it is just another holiday few people even consider the meaning of. Besides, after retirement, everyday is a holiday and every weekend is a long weekend.

Actually we have more stat holidays now than we can afford and employers can afford to pay for, so it's time we started doubling up on holidays. In reality it's not going to make one iota of difference, people will still refer to it as either "Victoria Day" or "May long weekend".
For a while. But we stopped saying Dominion Day for July 1st, so this, too, will probably change.
Whoc ares. We have labour day too. How mnay people spend that day marching for better worker's rights? But First People's day? I don't even know what aFirst People is.
