This is within spitting distance of Nakusp.

This is not logging, it is rape.

I've never denied the overkill in certain situations. I just don't think you can tar ALL clearcuts with the same brush.

I doubt that stump the kid is sitting on is 800 years old. Kind of small for that age. There was some other pics somewhere this morning that I can't find now but I did aa bit of estimating on the value based on what the pics showed.
There would be about 25 m3 of usable wood that had the government sold this tree would have netted $2000 -$3000 in stumpage fees alone possibly more.
This would make 10 cords of shake blocks which is a weeks work for 1 person @ 800/cord = $8000 delivered to the shake mill.
A square of shakes is worth around $200 and there is 10 sq in a cord of prime wood. That makes about $20000.
add in some trucking and roofers wages and that is quite a bit of taxable money the parks board was prepaired to let rot.
No wonder our governments are in such a mess.

Has anyone been to Meares Island? The trees there are really huge.
