I was talking with a friend of mine who was from the US originally. She spent some time in New Mexico a couple of years ago. She said she did not see any children outside playing on the street or in the parks, so she asked a local why she didn't see any children. The local replied, "are you crazy? We don't let the children out of the house. It is far too dangerous." My friend was driving home one day past a school and was pulled over by a cop and told she could not drive by the school on a week day. She had to go around it.

Paranoia is rampant. People are terrified of their shadows. Gun sales are sky rocketing after this latest shooting and now people are buying body armour for their kids. Makers of bulletproof backpacks have been overwhelmed with orders since the Newtown shootings.

First, they will take your guns....next, your fingers

Good. Guns are designed to kill. Simulating a gun, whether it is a finger, or even a popsicle stick has the same meaning, to kill another human being in cold blood. It is a sign of intimidation. It is not funny, or a joke.

Cold blood means with no conscience, sociopathic, reptilian.

Use purple ink for sarcasm.

Otherwise people might think you are serious

A little paranoia is good for the economy. Soon the government will make body armor illegal and then the market will explode.

It is illegal in Canada already, isn't it? Along with fortifying your dwelling, etc...

Funny. When I was a kid, it was because we were playing humans vs spacemen, cops or robbers, etc. It was all pretending. Infinitely massive difference in intent between that and actually intending harm to anyone.

Yep. He's definitely got that Herb Tarlac vibe working for him. 8O

Hope I'll be able to sleep tonight.

But what about all those Road Runner cartoons?? Surely we all grew up to drop anvils on our enemies, didn't we?

Or maybe that was just me. ;)

Does that mean I would get a disorderly conduct charge brought against me for my "Pop Goes The Weasel" middle finger trick? The horror of it all, someone might get scared of my finger!

I still remember singing that song in my grade one class. Could have been on the hit parade in 1949, for all I know!-:)

If he shook his hand like a fully automatic, then I say we suspend him, but if it was a single shot then he was obviously just playing cowboys and indians. /sarcasm

This is likely not the first time this kid has been hauled into the office. Bet he is a repeat offender. They can not report that in the news. It is usually the same kids over and over and over. They punch, they kick, they bully and the other kids parents freak out. THAT is what drives this type of reaction, PARENTS who are concerned for their kid and their contact with the Board of Trustees. Yup. As for school lock downs the Board I work for has cameras on the front doors and when school is in session those doors are kept locked and one must buzz to get in. You are then allowed through or not. You would be surprised at the problems that happen just in a regular nice area. You would be horrified at what happens in rough areas. It is not quite as simple as it seems.
