We should help them out by imposing a 25% export tariff on Canadian lumber exports to the US and spin it as a sign of our friendly relations with the US.

Why not! That way, BOTH countries get to cash in on the misfortune of American disaster victims!

The softwood lumber tariffs have ended up being an extra tax on Americans who are trying to rebuild their homes after those two devastating hurricanes, last year. The US can't produce anywhere near enough lumber to fill their needs anyway and the demand was accelerated by natural disasters. Canada continues to ship softwood lunber and the poorly informed US public continue to pay the 25% tax to their own government.

MAGA!
i believe the average cost of building a house is up $3,000 per home because of the softwood tariff.

Trump gave the 1% a trillion dollars and this is how he is going to pay for it.

More taxes to follow.

Watch Trudeau make his opening remarks in French...to pander to Quebecers...to show off his bilingualism...and to generally piss off the other leaders.

the world leaderws......except for trump are a mature, intelligent and seasoned lot.

They are used to bilingualism .....as a SOP. Not to worry he will speak english too.....as is the custom. Those that can't speak English might be at a disadvantage......
That is the least of the concerns in the current "atmosphere " created by the idiot to the south.

the good thing is that the plan is that if trump wants to go it alone........ he iw welcome to it. The G 6 will carry on as planned. If he wants to belly ache on twitter......let him......... butit is getting more than tiresome / UNPROFESSIONAL.

The real question is: Does anyone care?
Yes...... the way they care about a skunk at a picnic.;-)

... because he is in Quebec, maybe?

One of the other leaders is French, too. He won't be pissed off. Next time, he should open up in Japanese, hence we piss THEM off. The Germans would prefer to hear it in German but you can be sure that Mercel understands French, too as would the Italian and the two EU representatives. Even May might speak some French, who knows? There us no way in hell that Trump would have bothered learning anyone else's language. Who the feck cares if he's pissed off. He's completely off his rocker and he'll be pissed off if the whole summit isn't about HIM.

Frances Macron threatens to isolate U.S. at G-7 summit, drawing sharp response from Trump

French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday threatened to join with other world leaders to issue a rare rebuke of the United States at a global summit in Quebec this weekend, drawing a sharp reply from President Trump.

Macron threatened to exclude the United States from the joint statement issued every year at the end of the G-7 summit, part of an international pushback against Trumps efforts to change trade rules.

The American President may not mind being isolated, but neither do we mind signing a 6 country agreement if need be, Macron wrote on Twitter. Because these 6 countries represent values, they represent an economic market which has the weight of history behind it and which is now a true international force.

Trump responded by accusing Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of hurting the United States with unfair trade practices.

If Macron knows what's good for him domestically, he'll get as far away from Trump as he can get. The French public ... and just about every other nation in Europe, loathe Trump and proximity to him will only hurt one.

Like I said. Canada should help the US and match its export tariffs to the US to the US' import tariffs from Canada dollar for dollar. The US wants a 25% lumber import tariff from Canada? Canada should give the US a 25% lumber export tariff to the US. That would make 50% total tariffs. Ouch!

Trump wants to impose a 25% import tariff on Canadian steel, Canada should impose a 25% export tariff on Canadian steel. That's what friends are for.

indeed. Macrom made a mistake by lowering himself to Trump's level and responding to him on TWITTER..........Twitter is Trump's sandbox (swamp) where he plays dirty and underhanded.

The crazy thing is that Putin might be happy watching all this divisive stuff from Trump......... as creating angst between countries countries would leave them vulnerable. Putin is quietly watching this dynamic....

That's what the MI 5 guy said. I think that it may be more like a few billion dollars worth of Russian money floating Trump Co.
It has to be about MONEY. THAT is Trump's achilles heel ("deals" made" in true shyster style and the greed for even more money. Money is his ego, it is his pesonna it is his weapon is his power & identity . He would just shrug off golden showers and call it a boys night out. Women are dispensable. He controls them with money..as he does everything else in his life.

With Due respect that is an unfair generalization. the Tariff thing is not "left' or "right".........they hurt people of all parties. Furthermore : the current ones ae ILLEGAL........not that it bothers Trump or his enablers ie fans. And the softwood lumber thing...... GRRR.

SO were the ones Obummer applied. Yet no one on the left made any noise. The only difference is that this time the economy is strong enough that the cost is being passed on to US customers instead of being absorbed by Canadian producers. Also if Canadian steel companies hadn't bought cheap offshore products and exported them to the US we probably wouldn't have this discussion.
