"That idea propelled anti-gay activist and singer Anita Bryant's Save Our Children campaign in the 1970s.

And it led to a 1978 California ballot measure to ban gays and lesbians from working in public schools, an initiative spearheaded by state Sen. John Briggs, who promised, "We are going to restore morality to the classroom and remove openly and blatant homosexuals from influencing and teaching our young.""

It's been going on a while, but the push I think in the 80's and 90's to recognize gay people made it go quiet-er. Now with all the anti-GLBTQIA stuff going on, it's popped back up.

Halton school board rejects new professionalism policy after months of criticism

The Halton District School Board did not support a new professionalism policy months after a controversial teacher’s provocative prosthetics sparked outrage at an Oakville high school.

On Wednesday, trustees decided instead to see if the current policies in place on professionalism in the workplace could be clarified or tweaked.

The current professionalism policy was brought into question beginning in September 2022 when a shop teacher at Trafalgar High School, identified as Kayla Lemieux, appeared wearing an oversized chest prosthetic to classes.

The new policy was proposed following months of criticism by students, parents, teachers and the community, and it was presented to the board at the final meeting of the school year by Sari Taha, Superintendent of Human Resources.

“I will not be supporting this policy this evening and here is my rationale,” trustee and vice-chair Tanya Rocha said. “I think it’s been made abundantly clear that we do have the policies, procedures and regulations in place that address all forms of professionalism.

“And when I looked at the draft policy that’s been presented, there’s really nothing new. It’s really a summary of everything that exists, so it begs the question, ‘Do we really need this?’ And in my opinion, we do not.”

Rocha added that language in the current policy could be strengthened to address this topic.

Board chair Margo Shuttleworth echoed her sentiments at the meeting.

“We have a lot of policies that are already in place at the board, that we really need to focus on what we have. And rather than create a new document, which might muddy the water, we need to ensure that the language is clear in the policies that we have to ensure that professionalism is at our schools.”

Lemieux reportedly is no longer teaching at the school in the wake of a story that has made local, national and international headlines.

Earlier this year, Lemieux said that she suffers from a condition known as gigantomastia, and added she is not transgender, but was born intersex.

She added that she was told by a doctor that she was born with “XX chromosomes” and a “hormone sensitivity to estrogen,” but didn’t provide anything in writing to support her claims.

Yeah, don't think - as TB pointed out - Sharia Law is is gonna take hold in Canada. But you do make a valid point nonetheless about it.

If it was a thing of the past you'd have a point, but gays today are still called groomers and so on. Not as much or openly, but it does still happen. And I get that gays want to be 'accepted' so some of them will cling to the big issues like this just to say "Hey, we're not as bad as THEM", and some are just as anti-trans as any other straight, but sometimes this issue between gays and trans makes me want to bite people, or smack them with a foam bat.

Oh on that I agree; the entire issue is complicated and layered.

But let's be real; the issue is this idea that kids are being somehow "Forced" to be trans. They're not. IF at any point they are though, trans people would rise up against those who did this, along with everyone else. Even inside the community there's a divide about how to handle trans kids. In the end though, I'd rather go with what DOESN'T lead to a dead kid.
Just leave the kids alone & there'd be no issues! How is it no one is getting this?

One more time. Picture Canada. Picture our Human Rights Tribunals where the accused is guilty until proven innocent, opposite from a court of law. Seriously, & almost nobody ever wins in a human rights tribunal if they’re put in front of one.

Picture Gay/Trans/Whatever Protestors hauling the Muslim Protesters in front of a Tribunal for infringing on their right to protest for being gay or whatever…freedom of expression; while simultaneously picture Muslim Protesters hauling the Gay/Trans/Whatever Protesters in front of a Tribunal for infringing on their right to protest for being Muslim or Islamophobia… their freedom of expression, etc…

The irony would be kind’a funny, as they can do the trumped up trial of the Muslims in the mornings, and the trumped up trial of the Gay/Trans/etc…in the afternoons, and repeat daily until they’re done.

Both sides of the protest could eventually end up defending each other, and find common ground with a common enemy being a human rights tribunal….& probably both sides would lose, because the odds of winning in one of those situations are slim at best.

Thus my mental picture comparing them to Elon Musk & Mark Zuckerberg with their coming slap-fest in an Octagon probably in Las Vegas.
Muslim-led city bans Pride flags on public property, sparking a debate on discrimination and religious expression

The city of Hamtramck, Michigan, has banned LGBTQ+ flags from all publicly owned flagpoles, The Associated Press reported.

The decision, announced in a lengthy council meeting, sparked a debate around discrimination and religious expression in the city, which elected a Muslim-majority council in 2015 — the first city in the US to do so, per The Guardian.

The city had built up a reputation for its liberal values, so the move to ban the Pride flag — which some council members said clashed with the beliefs of some Muslims in the area — left many citizens appalled, The Guardian reported.

"We want to respect the religious rights of our citizens," council member Nayeem Choudhury said.

When the meeting opened up to public comments, one woman protested the move by kissing a woman standing next to her, per The AP.

"You guys are welcome," Choudhury said, adding "why do you have to have the flag shown on government property to be represented? You're already represented. We already know who you are."

The former Hamtramck mayor Karen Majewski said that there was "a sense of betrayal" following the move, per The Guardian.

But Dawud Walid, director of the Michigan branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, argued that Hamtramck's flag policy didn't discriminate against any particular group, according to The AP.

Four kids aged between 5 and 10 taken into care after being found at a drag party with a dead trans woman's body on the floor and drugs and sex toys scattered throughout 'hoarder' home

Four kids aged five to 10 have been taken into care after first responders found them hidden in a squalid Boston apartment surrounded by sex toys and drugs where a black trans woman was dead on the floor.

Emergency services found the unidentified woman's body after an unconscious person report was made at 11am on Saturday morning. They reportedly found six adults who appeared to be men dressed as women inside, who were uncooperative and denied having children at the home.

The children were found jammed together in a cramped room, surrounded by filth and a stench permeating the air, hidden by an adult man reportedly wearing a wig.

City Councilor Erin Murphy told NBC the partygoers attempted to stop a responding firefighter from finding the kids.

'When he opened the door, he saw four children and what I believe are two adults in the back room, and it was really disturbing to him,' Murphy said to NBC. 'They just seemed scared.'

Boston Police are classifying the incident as a death investigation resulting from cardiac arrest and no arrests had been made as of Wednesday.

That'sone version from police but here is what the Boston Fire Department says in the original Boston Herald article.

There was hoarding, a lot of uncleanliness in the apartment, lots of sex toys and drug paraphernalia all over the place,' Murphy said.

The children were immediately removed from the hazardous environment and transferred into the care of child protective services, where medical professionals assessed their physical and mental condition.

It is unclear what the relationship is between the adults and children found in the apartment.

According to the police report, alcohol and drug consumption were not suspected, however, the dead body was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office intake specialist, Lindsey Cadwell for further inspection.

It is not currently known what caused the woman's death.

'This is sickening,' said At-Large City Councilor Michael Flaherty to the Boston Herald. 'I was informed by people at the scene that there were drugs, alcohol, sex toys all around the apartment as well as a dead body on the floor.'

Flaherty told the Herald the woman found on the floor had died 'from an apparent overdose' and that 'a man wearing a wig claiming to be the father' of the kids was found in a back bedroom.

After more than 50 years of being impressively ahead of the curve on gay and trans rights issues, Canadians may have finally encountered an LGBT issue that they consider a bridge too far.

New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs recently took the controversial stand of becoming the first high-profile Canadian politician to resist a policy of having public schools accommodate the gender transition of young students without informing parents.

The move was met by a miniature revolt within Higgs’ own cabinet and was quickly branded as “far right” by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “Deadnaming Children Would Be Allowed Under School Policy,” was how The New York Times covered it – “deadnaming” here referring to the practice of using the birth name of a trans person.

But according to a Leger poll last May, a clear majority of Canadians are on Higgs’ side. Of respondents, 57 per cent agreed with Higgs, while a mere 18 per cent agreed that schools should continue facilitating gender transitions without parental consent.

Canadians maybe, but people of NB? HELL NO. There are more people/parents in NB that seem to be supportive of the bill, not against it.

And this has caused his own people - even his party - to tell Higgs to GTFO.

I think it's hilarious and while it could happen to better, as deserving assholes, Higgs is definitely one that deserves this ass kicking. As one person from the party said today to the effect of "This was the job you wanted. If you didn't want people to say bad things about you, get over it."
