Well, I've always felt the degree of risk involved on a job has to count for something. The ditch digger and most labourers are at risk of serious injury and even death in a few instances. The phone worker does have the risk of dropping the phone on her toe, but wearing steel toes will preclude that risk.:)

you are a funny guy, with funny ideas.

Lots- joint damage, muscle damage, tendon damage, sprains, strains.

somebody young, very little education, strong as a horse, will use that shovel just fine, if he
suffers those injuries, he is terribly out of shape for his age, probably some lazy guy, who
doesn't do much, just like he didn't want to go to school.

give that b.s. to somebody else who hasn't a brain in his/her head.

so, he should make more money than the phone worker because he is doing physical work, and the phone
worker isn't, just listen to yourself, you sound silly.

While I respect your opinion Talloola in this case it doesn't make a lot of sense. What skills besides being able to understand & write down a message does a phone worker have?

It bis the theory of work of equal value. AKA gender equity. Flawed theory.

I might be dumb regarding the matter but I just fail to see that a telephone worker's job would compare with the ability, danger, intensity, conditions such as weather, terrain & environment as that of a labourer. I think minimum wage is adequate for a phone worker.

A lot of desk top require a brain which is worth more. But those are also not minimum wage.

I was talking solely about a job that requires answering the phone and recording messages.

What about telephone workers who's offices are in ditches or forests both commonly found outside in the dangerous elements.?

Common sense should give you the answer to that idiotic question! Any job where additional demands are made generally deserves an adjustment in pay.

Well if they want wage parity I thought the answer was obvious, the various employers would realize the extra required revenue on space rental arrangments and the matter could be satisfied in an agreeable manner affording fair and resonably equitable treatment of all three factions. This is the way that business should be conducted.

That would probably include Revenue Canada employees, those working for Federal Fisheries and Dept. of Indian affairs just to name a few. Federal Prison employees.

And I'm sure ALL of those guys make minimum wage lol!! NOT!

I was speaking to my Chiropractor the other day and his office is in a little strip mall. He said that he was talking to one of the business owners in the mall and that guy says he didn't realize how even a $1 increase an hour was going to affect his business. He's open 7 days a week for 12 hours each day. He's feeling the bite already and there's more to come.

So, if he's feeling the pinch, he's likely to decrease the number of employees, his hours or both. Maybe not now, but certainly in the future. It'll be interesting for sure!

Time to make it a 'family only' run business, like when farms could use children as labor and they got food and a roof over their head for their 'work'.
