It is an embargo...not a blockade. Cuba can trade with anyone they wish...we just don't want to trade with them. It is the course that they have chosen. It was all fun until the Soviets stopped sending rubles. Now they want the embargo lifted under their terms.
Besides... they have Canada to trade with... what more can they want?
It boils down to distance and cost, and most cubans call the Embargo "
el bloqueo" The Blockade, so what I say is true, based on who you ask.
The Blockade was a poor political attempt to force Cuba into a Democracy which would better suit the US..... it didn't work, it shouldn't be continued, as I imagine there are friends/family in both nations who would like to easily see each other again, and it would open up more markets for not just Cuba, but the US as well.... in a time where you guys seem to need all the money you can get.
Well then you must be an expert then!
Sure, why not?
But seriously... I was in the Marines with Cubans and visit my Marine buddy who is now a lawyer in Miami. I agree, they are wonderful people. The Cubans here in the US are also the reason why the embargo will stand. They do not like the Cuban govt.
The embargo doesn't hurt the government, it hurts the people.
It seems a lot of them hate it as they try to make the escape to the US on anything that will float. Sounds like a wonderful place.
Yeah and many Americans are fleeing across your borders to Mexico and Canada..... everybody has their reasons.
Why hasn't everybody fled Cuba if it was that bad? Why do they stay? Probably because of the same reasons why you don't flee the US.... you like your country and your way of life, even though I find it hard to believe.
Most of the people fleeing Cuba on little make shift boats are usually people trying to change the government or force one thing over another, so if they want to live in a country like that, they ship them off to one that matches that, the US.
And let's not forget that the majority of the Cuban population that came over into the US in the early 80's were actually prisoners/criminals Castro wanted to get rid of..... seemed like a pretty funny joke on his part, lol.
You wouldn't change your mind if you had a whole stadium full of Cubans telling you how awful it is.
You talking about those criminals mentioned above?
And it'd be no different then me standing in a stadium full of Republicans.... just because you fill a big room full of people with a common belief, doesn't make it absolute. Sure it may seem like it is in that atmosphere, but it's not reality.
Once again.... why arn't all Cubans fleeing from Cuba? Why haven't they all revolted? Does Castro have soldiers pointing guns at everybody's head to make sure they do as they are told?
No.
Sorry... too much fun. I shall stay.
I meant move on from the paticular focus of the main topic..... go wherever you please.
It didn't and the OP did not even bring up Cuba. He was saying how Canada was the least corrupt, giving you folks a pat on the back. DB was the one that brought up Cuba and was schooled pretty well.
And I only came in once I read the Beaver remark..... then I just went along with the flow, as I know a few other Cubans who have different points of view compared to just this former one.
I think it is cute that you are sticking up for DB though. I guess he needs help on this.
I'm not sticking up for him, I was sticking up for the beaver species being referred to as pests by someone totally ignorant to their actual functions within the eco system..... that and him spouting his opinion like it's gospel compared to what I have heard first hand, face to face from others, differs from him.
I'm merely balancing the perspective.
There are those who hate Cuba..... there are others who love their country, just like any other nation out there.
But yet they are living in Canada. What does that tell you?
There are Canadians living in the US, such as my uncle, yet the still love the country they were born and raised in.... each person has their own reasons.
My cousin moved to Canada because he was working part time in Cuba, he wanted to broaden his education, and the animation courses here where I live had a few more features then other's he was looking at, not to mention he got married to a Canadian who already had a career here in the country..... it made logical sense to move here. That doesn't mean he hates his country, his family and everything in Cuba.
Come off it.
