First of all, I don't know any Canadian that would Whisper their national anthem. I for one know that when at a hockey game in AMERICA playing a Canadian team, the Canadian anthem is sung louder by the few Canadians in the arena while the American's in there all stand and look at the flag mouthing the words. SING A LITTLE, have some pride. While yes, us Canadians may be too polite from time to time, is there anything really wrong with that. You should try is sometime, eh?

And if you really are American, why don't you take a look at your national anthem before you go putting down ours . . . ever heard of God Save the Queen. . . . o wait, it's the same tune!

Why dare not to say anything? This time you'll get no disagreement from me.

Describe a Canadian? He's the guy (or should I say She's the gal) who measures words carefully lest they be interpreted as slightly politically incorrect ... whispers a national anthem that, itself, was switched from the original Maple Leaf Forever to appease one segment of the population, then altered so it wouldn't offend another ... cringes at the mere mention of the words Jesus or Christmas or God, yet must be careful not to gaze upon a cloaked person or name a teddy bear for a boxing great ... tolerates that fellow who will not remove cover as he enters the Legion, or refuses to wear the traditional headgear of police services ... is expected to understand inquiries in any language ... Has to express pride and patriotism in secrecy lest someone hear it as an affront ... often accused of Anti-Americanism when, in reality, it's a twinge of envy of that neighbour who can boast without worrying of whom gets their nose out of joint....

Woof!

I think the geographical location of the two nations is an excellent fit and I hope it remains so......

I always think of Canada as the "cool head" the U.S. lacks with its frantic upheavals in politics, financial schema, fads and follies..... kinda like the old fashion "ice bag" on the head for a hangover ...... it behooves the U.S. people well to have some sanity to consult
in many ways.......through a people who are not only forgiving, but understanding, and have a great sense of humor about their southern "cousins".... and as I have written many times before it must
burn up other nations who are unable to maintain beautiful and peaceful border relations as well as
economically advantageous ones - I won't say "kissing cousins" but close enough for me to love it.

yes, never tought about it that way before, but you are right, from the other side of the pond,
they must scratch their heads, wondering why we don't fight with each other all the time, and
how on earth we get along so well.

It's great, even though we hear so much trashing of the u.s. from canadians, it seems to me that
for the most part, we are happy to have them as neighbours, even if we are a little arrogant about
it, and if asked to replace them with another country, well, forget it.

Canadians love who they are, a little stuffy, wanting their own identity, without they have it, and not nearly enough in awe of how wonderful our country is, how big it is, and how
much room we have to dance, sing, and wander around, wherever we want, with lots of elbow room.

I don't blame Canadians - it's like being parked forever above a volcano which nobody know will have it's next "blow". There is much to love and be proud of in Canada and to have survived keeping its "cat in heat cousin down south" from coming to the next boil has been
a testament to the Canadian patience.

Well being Canadian is watching hockey and drinking beer; oh wait, they already do that in Minnesota, Washington State, Slovakia, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Poland... ok I made my point.

I imagine the difference between us and the Australians, was the fact that the Australians never had to conform to a minority; unlike us in Canada, where Quebec was always a thorn in the side of Anglo-Canadian culture.

Northern Ontario,
The difference between France and Quebec was described once by a Frenchman....

In la belle France, they call me an "Artiste"

In Quebec ....... a "CorkSoaker"

we don't have much choice, with our 'little' numbers of population, compared to theirs. And, when
they behave badly in the eyes of the rest of the world, we 'again' just get embarrassed that our
friend is so stupid, and wish so much that they would stifle it just 'once'.

And its not " an unarmed American with health insurance."

Once in a while someone does a nice job of describing a Canadian,

In case anyone asks you who a Canadian is . .

A Canadian can be English, or French,
Quebecois , or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish,
Polish, Russian or Greek. A Canadian can be Mexican,
African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean,
Australian, Iranian, Asian, Arab, Armenian , Pakistani
or Afghan , etc..

A Canadian may also be a Cree, Métis, Mohawk,
Blackfoot, Sioux, or one of the many other tribes
known as native Canadians. A Canadian's religious
beliefs range from Christian, Jewish, Buddhist,
Muslim, Hindu or none. In fact, there are more Muslims
in Canada than in Afghanistan . The key difference,
is that in Canada, they are free to worship as each of
them chooses. Whether they have a religion or no
religion, each Canadian ultimately answers only to
God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming
to speak for the government and for God.

A Canadian lives in one of the most prosperous lands
in the history of the world. The root of that
prosperity can be found in the Charter of Rights and
Freedoms which recognize the right of each person to
the pursuit of happiness.

A Canadian is generous and Canadians have helped out
just about every other nation in the world in their
time of need, never asking a thing in return.
Canadians welcome the best of everything, the best
products, the best books, the best music, the best
food, the best services and the best minds. But they
also welcome the least - the oppressed, the outcast
and the rejected.

These are the people who built Canada . You can try to
kill a Canadian if you must, as other blood-thirsty
tyrants in the world have tried, but in doing so, you
could just be killing a relative or a neighbour. This
is because Canadians are not a particular people from
a particular place. They are the embodiment of the
human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that
spirit, everywhere, can be a Canadian.

Eh?.

I think, Talloola, if you consider our 32 million compared to their 320 million the amount of stupidity emerging from each country is about the same. Canadians can be embarrassing to especially, when they think they are better than Americans. We are all individuals some generous kind and thoughtful, some greedy, mean and oblivious and most a little bit of all of them. We all laugh and cry and hurt and bleed.

the government JLM, the government, people are people everywhere, and the embarrassment some canadians
might feel when their friend to the south 'again' flexes their muscles, isn't 'caused' by the american
people, but their government.
And, yes, our meager population compared to theirs, doesn't allow us (our government) to do much at all,
but straddle the fence, disagreeing out of one side of the mouth and supporting from the other.

The american people won't be embarrassed ever concerning what we do, they don't even really notice
what we do, but we certainly notice what they do.

That difference in numbers makes a huge difference in attitude and action, just give us the 300 mill
and watch us, and give them the 32 mill and they will disappear just as we are invisible to them.

Do governments laugh, cry and bleed, no, they stratagize, and conive and gamble.
But they do whine.

Perhaps, but the number of munitions emerging from each country differs to the extreme.

Yep, Gov'ts. are basically corrupt regardless of the country. When we've been down to the U.S. for any length of time it is virtually impossible to get any news from Canada, except of course the hockey scores.
