Trump said in interview how he pushed Gaza deal on Netanyahu, oppposes West Bank annexation: 'Bibi, the world's against you'

U.S. President Donald Trump said that Israeli annexation of the West Bank "won't happen because I gave my word to the Arab countries," adding that Israel would "lose all of its support from the United States if that happened," in an interview for Time Magazine.

Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he "can't fight the world" and must agree to end the war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. "You can fight individual battles, but the world's against you," the president added.

He added that if it wasn't for his pressure, Netanyahu "would have just kept going."

"It could have gone on for years. It would have gone on for years. But I stopped him, and everybody came together when I stopped him," he said.

According to Time Magazine, when Netanyahu resisted accepting the cease-fire deal, President Trump pressured him by listing all the things he had done for Israel, including accepting Israeli sovereignty on the Golan Heights, brokering the Abraham Accords and joining Israel's offensive in Iran in June.

But but but Hamaaaaaassss.

Some guy tried to tell me Greater Israel was a fringe idea and not Israeli policy of ethnic cleansing. Same guy complained that neighbours would not take Gazan refugees when Israel openly stated the goal was to etnically cleanse Gaza and take it. Smotrich and Ben-Gvir voted for it so Nutlessyahud is playing kabukibara again because it Likud Mandate too.

Netanyahu's Office Calls West Bank Annexation Vote 'Deliberate Provocation During JD Vance Visit'

Before leaving Israel, U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Trump's policy remains that the occupied West Bank won't be annexed by Israel. Vance added that he took 'some insult' at the situation and, if it were true that it was merely a political stunt – as he said he had been told – then 'it was a very stupid political stunt'

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office on Thursday slammed the Knesset's preliminary approval of a bill to annex the West Bank.

"The Knesset vote on annexation was a deliberate political provocation by the opposition to sow discord during [U.S.] Vice President JD Vance's visit to Israel," the Prime Minister's Office said. "The two bills were sponsored by opposition members of the Knesset."

According to the statement, "The Likud party and the religious parties did not vote for these bills, except for one disgruntled Likud member who was recently fired from the chairmanship of a Knesset committee."

Contrary to what was claimed in the statement, religious parties from the coalition, including Otzma Yehudit and Religious Zionism, voted in favor of the bills. Agudat Yisrael, a faction within the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism party, also voted in favor of the bill. The party left Netanyahu's coalition in July.

The Prime Minister's Office added that, "Without Likud support, these bills are unlikely to go anywhere."

Before leaving Israel on Thursday, Vance said U.S. President Donald Trump's policy remains that the occupied West Bank won't be annexed by Israel. Vance added that he took "some insult" at the situation and, if it were true that it was merely a political stunt – as he said he had been told – then "it was a very stupid political stunt."

The president himself said annexation "won't happen because I gave my word to the Arab countries," in an interview for Time Magazine, adding that Israel would "lose all of its support from the United States if that happened."

Netanyahu's Likud party called the Wednesday vote to annex the West Bank a "stunt by the opposition aimed at harming our relations with the United States." The preliminary vote, which comes prior to the three required votes in the Knesset before becoming law, passed with 25 lawmakers in support and 24 against.

Likud MK Yuli Edelstein broke with the Likud party line, voting in favor of Maoz's proposal. According to a Likud source, the party removed Edelstein from the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee over his vote.

A separate bill proposed by Avigdor Lieberman of the Yisrael Beiteinu party was also approved in a preliminary vote. The bill proposes annexation of the Ma'aleh Adumim settlement, which lies east of Jerusalem and west of Jericho.

It passed with 32 MKs in support and nine against. Among those voting in favor were members of Opposition Head Yair Lapid's Yesh Atid party and Benny Gantz's Blue and White.

Vance told reporters in Tel Aviv that he "feels pretty good" about the Gaza cease-fire after his meeting with Netanyahu. Vance also met with Defense Minister Israel Katz during his visit to Israel.

"Vice President Vance is a true friend to the State of Israel, and under the leadership of President [Donald] Trump, he has greatly contributed to Israel's security," Katz said in a statement issued by the ministry.

Whomever that is, sounds like a smart guy. What did A vote of 10 million Israelis say in that democracy on this question?

(You’ve got three/10,000,000 or so votes accounted for so far…)

They voted for illegal occupation? Is that a common plebiscite in democracies? What was the final score?
Illegally occupied from whom? I’m assuming you’re referring to what’s currently known as the “West Bank” that is a disputed territory that Jordan lost to Israel in mid-1967 after Jordan attacked Israel? That illegal occupation (?) and not the 19 years previous to that when Jordan annexed that same piece of land?
