Thought a new thread might be appropriate given the times we are in.

Guessing with the threat of tariffs on Canadian goods we will see Canada increase whichever metric it is related to defense spending. Unfortunately it is money Canada does not have so the snowball continues to grow.

Canada seems to be following the U.S. down the debt hole. The problem I see for Canada in that is that the U.S. has a pretty sure bet that our debt won't be called, because it would probably trash the global economy. Canada's debt could be called without such dire consequences for anybody but Canadians.

I'm guessing you have zero clue about the value of Greenland and Baffin Island?
There was a letter about this in the Times Colonist today about this. Buddy thought we should sell Baffin Island to the US for a trillion $$$. Pay off our national debt. Personally, I think the idea is sound, but way too cheep. A trillion plus royalties maybe.

I'm not sure. Petros would probably have a better idea than me. St. Mary's river valley is a 20 mile long iron ore deposit. Then there are all the other minerals buried in that area. As well as potential oil and gas deposits. That alone is probably worth more than 1 trillion. Then there is the military advantage of having access to the Arctic from the east pretty much sewn up. The value on that would depend a lot on your politics. A globalist probably would not see the same value as a Nationalist.

Access to the arctic, east and west.

That right there would be the BIGGEST value of having Greenland or any part of the region.

Part of why Russia is such a threat.

What's in the ground is great and all, but those are still finite resources. Access to a shorter trade route to Asia/Pacific? That will pay out for long after those things are collected and made into other shit.
