Why do we need CUPE anyway?
There is a disconnect brewing between labour leaders and their rank and file. Union leadership has taken on all manner of causes unrelated to workers’ well-being, such as trans rights and Palestinian self-determination. If I was in a union at this point, I would want them to be focussed on getting me the best bang for my buck, & staying the hell out of everything else that isn’t focussed on getting me the best bang for my union dues.

It's a toss up between Unifor and CUPE for the most corrupt.

'Threats' prompted Elle publishers to remove Sarah Jama from contentious article
Author of the article:Bryan Passifiume
Published Sep 03, 2024 • 2 minute read

OTTAWA — Threats against a Canadian women’s magazine prompted publishers to revise a contentious article over the weekend.

Posted online on Aug. 19, Elle Canada published a listicle entitled “These Eight Incredible Canadians have Broken the Glass Ceiling” by writer Sadaf Ahsan — featuring profiles of eight “changemakers,” including LGBT advocate Fae Johnstone, journalist Connie walker, hockey great Cassie Campbell-Pascall, and independent MPP Sarah Jama.

Despite the gender-neutral headline of the article’s online version, social media posts and the magazine’s print edition described the piece as profiles of “eight incredible Canadian women.”

The online version of the article, however, omits the word “women” from the headline.

The article sparked furor online, due to the inclusion of Jama and two trans-women — Johnstone and musician Vivek Shraya.

“Did these men ever struggle to find a place to pump milk? Did they have their fertility status discussed at SLT (senior leadership team) meetings in relation to whether they should be promoted? Called ‘emotional’ or spoken over by booming male voices in the boardroom? Suffer sexism and told it’s ’just a joke’? Had their career path hampered because they wouldn’t give sexual favours? You are an absolute disgrace to women, girls and feminism as a whole,” wrote one disgruntled reader on X.

Elle‘s Friday post on X garnered over 2,000 replies before the magazine limited comments.

Jama, a rookie MPP representing Hamilton Centre with a history of anti-Israel and what some view as anti-Semitic remarks, was booted from the NDP caucus last year in response to controversial statements issued shortly after the Oct. 7 terror attacks. (Jama has denied her comments were anti-Semitic.)

The NDP removed her one day after Jama was censured by the Ontario legislature, with the party claiming Jama was “uncooperative” and broke terms of an agreement that would’ve kept her in the party.

Jama also appeared in a Nov. 14 video denying that Hamas terrorists sexually assaulted their victims during the Oct. 7 attacks, blaming such reports on misinformation from Canada’s “zionist lobby.”

In response to the controversy, Elle removed Jama from the piece, added an editorial note and removed the author’s byline from the story.

The word “eight” was also excised from the headline.

On Monday, the editorial note was revised, saying the original article “represents the opinions of a political personality but does not reflect the opinions of the publishers of Elle Canada and its parent company.”

Elle Canada publisher Sophie Banford told the Toronto Sun the decision to edit the article wasn’t made lightly.

“Unfortunately, over the weekend, some members of our editorial team were targeted with threats due to this article,” she said.

“The safety and well-being of our journalists are our top priorities, and it is within this context that we made the decision to remove the content in question.”

The entire article, including the profile on Jama, was published in Elle Canada‘s September issue.

The United States announced criminal charges on Tuesday against Hamas' top leaders over their roles in planning, supporting and perpetrating the deadly Oct. 7 attack in southern Israel.

The charges against Yahya Sinwar, the militant group's chief, and at least five others accuse them of orchestrating the Oct. 7 attack, which killed 1,200 people, including more than 40 Americans.

That attack triggered an Israeli assault on Gaza that has killed more than 40,800 Palestinians and laid waste to much of the territory.

"As outlined in our complaint, those defendants -- armed with weapons, political support, and funding from the Government of Iran, and support from (Hezbollah) - have led Hamas’s efforts to destroy the State of Israel and murder civilians in support of that aim," Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.

The complaint names six defendants, three of whom are deceased. The living defendants are Sinwar, who is believed to be in hiding in Gaza; Khaled Meshaal, who is based in Doha and heads the group's diaspora office; and Ali Baraka, a senior Hamas official based in Lebanon.

U.S. prosecutors brought charges against the six men in February, but kept the complaint under seal in hopes of capturing Haniyeh, according to a Justice Department official.

The Justice Department decided to go public with the charges after Haniyeh's death…& would have nothing to do with the US Federal election in just over two months.

U.S. charges Hamas leader, other militants in connection with Oct. 7 massacre in Israel

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department announced criminal charges Tuesday against Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and other militants in connection with the Oct. 7, 2023, rampage in Israel.

The criminal complaint filed in federal court in New York City includes charges of conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, resulting in death.

“The charges unsealed today are just one part of our effort to target every aspect of Hamas’ operations,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a video statement. “These actions will not be our last.”

Sinwar was appointed the overall head of Hamas after the killing of Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and sits atop Israel’s most-wanted list. He is believed to have spent most of the past 10 months living in tunnels under Gaza, and it is unclear how much contact he has with the outside world.

Other Hamas leaders charged include Haniyeh; Marwan Issa, the deputy leader of Hamas’ armed wing in Gaza who helped plan last year’s attack; Khaled Mashaal, another Haniyeh deputy and a former leader of the group; Mohammed al-Masri and Ali Baraka.

Not even in Gaza, but the West Bank, people who protest rightly that Israel is going against the law are being killed by the IDF. Because... something something anti-Jew?

"Jonathan Pollak, an Israeli activist who was at the same protest as Ms Eygi, said he had heard "two separate shots of live ammunition, shot one after the other... and then I heard another shot".

"I found her lying on the ground, beside the tree, bleeding from her head," Mr Pollak told AFP news agency, as he showed blood on the hand he used to stop Ms Eygi's head from bleeding.

"I took her pulse, she had a very weak pulse, we called the ambulance.

"From there we evacuated her to the village's medical centre, where the doctor came into the ambulance and continued into the hospital, where they tried to resuscitate her but failed."

Mr Pollak said the killing was "now receiving the light of day because she is an American citizen".

In an interview with the BBC's Newshour programme, Mr Pollak was asked about the IDF's statement, where the Israeli military said security forces had been responding to "a main instigator who hurled rocks at the forces and posed a threat to them". Mr Pollak said there had been clashes but he felt that soldiers had been "under no threat".

He also said that where Ms Eygi was shot had been a "separate incident at a separate place", adding that there had been "no stone throwing" where she had been."

So I guess this Jonathan Pollak is anti-Semitic/a Jew hater, etc and so on.

"Eygi is the third ISM activist to have been killed since 2000, according to the Associated Press. She was the 18th demonstrator to be killed in Beita since 2020, the ISM said.

In 2003, while protesting against the Israeli military’s destruction of houses in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, Rachel Corrie – a 23-year-old US citizen from Olympia in Washington state – was killed by an Israeli army bulldozer.

A month later, Tom Hurndall, a 22-year-old Briton, was shot in the head while he was helping Palestinian children cross a street in Rafah. He died the following year. An Israeli soldier was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to eight years in prison.

In August, an American activist said he was shot in the leg by Israeli forces during a protest in Beita. The man, who spoke to the AFP using a pseudonym, said Israeli troops were “firing teargas at us, live rounds” and that he was shot while he was running away."

Well, at least one person in the IDF was held accountable for killing someone. Too bad it was only 8 years. Guess British lives don't matter as much as Israeli ones do?

As it is likely whoever shot this young woman will not be held accountable. Because something something anti-Semitic/Jew Hater?

A 26-year-old US-Turkish woman has been shot dead in the occupied West Bank during a protest on Friday, where Israeli forces opened fire.

Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who had joint nationality, was taking part in a protest against Jewish settlement expansion in the town of Beita near Nablus.

According to local media reports, Ms Eygi was shot by Israeli troops.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was "looking into reports that a foreign national was killed as a result of shots fired in the area".

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken deplored the "tragic loss", while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan branded the Israeli action "barbaric".

Turkey's foreign ministry said Ms Eygi was "killed by Israeli occupation soldiers in the city of Nablus".

The White House did not ascribe blame, but called on Israel to investigate.

Earlier, US state department spokesman Matthew Miller said Washington was "urgently gathering more information about the circumstances of her death".

Dr Fouad Nafaa, head of Rafidia Hospital where Ms Eygi was admitted, confirmed that a US citizen in her mid-20s had died from a "gunshot in the head".
Hamas executed six hostages this week deep in the tunnels they dug underneath Gaza, likely because Israeli soldiers were getting too close. The most prominent amongst the bodies that the IDF brought home for burial was Hersh Goldberg Polin, an American citizen.

Rachel, his mother, tried to run into Gaza last week, screaming his name with a primal, guttural cry that reverberated around the world, a mama bear searching for her stolen cub. At that point he was almost certainly alive.

Also in those same tunnels, built and fortified with cash from Qatar and billions a year in Western humanitarian aid, Israeli soldiers brought back a document written by senior Hamas leaders that described their PR strategy. It looks like any communications messaging sheet for political bodies all over the world.

Translated from Arabic, the third bullet point reads: “Continue with the line that Netanyahu is responsible for what happened.”
Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said Netanyahu's accusations against Hamas were an attempt to escape responsibility for their deaths.

"Netanyahu killed the six prisoners and he is determined to kill the remaining ones. The Israelis should choose between Netanyahu or the deal," Abu Zuhri said.
I believe these six hostages were also shot in their heads. Seems to be a theme lately.

Hamas on Thursday released a propaganda video of slain hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin, which his grieving family described as a “wakeup call” for the world to act for the release of the remaining captives in Gaza.
Hamas has released a video on Telegram on Monday showing the six recently slain hostages speaking into a camera, while also announcing that it will release their "last message to the world" before they were killed.
Goldberg-Polin was buried on Monday after his body, along with those of five other murdered hostages, was recovered by the IDF on Saturday. The army said the six were executed by their Hamas captors roughly 48 to 72 hours before soldiers arrived at the Rafah tunnel where they were found. It is believed that they were killed after their guards were tipped off on approaching Israeli troops.

Goldberg-Polin’s family said the Hamas video “must serve as an immediate wakeup call to the world to act today to secure the release of the remaining 101 hostages before it is too late.”
Shooting the six hostages in the back of the head last week, Hamas’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades, warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that unless a deal was agreed the other hostages would be returned in coffins.
Hamas has previously issued similar videos of hostages it is holding, in what Israel says is psychological warfare.

Thursday’s clip was the latest in a series that Hamas pledged to release at the beginning of the week, featuring the six murdered hostages.
After the executions, a Hollywood-style poster was released by Hamas showing a terrorist with a gun in the foreground behind a seated and dejected hostage. On the wall, a series of chalk mark lines were being scratched off, presumably indicating the number of hostages killed.
Earlier this week, Hamas published videos of Yerushalmi, Danino, Gat and Lobanov.

In her video, Gat gave her age as 39; she turned 40 in May while in captivity, indicating that at least her clip was likely filmed several months ago.
At home, Netanyahu is facing increased pressure from a population weary of war and outraged that hostages are still captive. But while tens of thousands took to the streets of Israel to protest, the call for a general strike was ignored in some areas reflecting the political division in the country.
Israeli authorities and human rights groups, and several freed hostages, have said that captives are coerced into making their remarks in such videos. Israeli media outlets generally publish them only if their families request that they do so.

It was not immediately known when the video of Goldberg-Polin was filmed.
“And now after this we’re asked to show seriousness? We’re asked to make concessions? What message does this send Hamas? It says kill more hostages, murder more hostages, you’ll get more concessions,” said Netanyahu.
Their deaths triggered a surge in demonstrations calling on the government to reach a hostage-ceasefire deal with Hamas. Netanyahu has come under particular fire amid allegations that he is avoiding a deal to satisfy far-right elements of his coalition who fear an agreement would bring a permanent (???) end to the war before the stated goal of destroying Hamas is achieved.
The truth is, there is nothing Netanyahu can concede, nothing Netanyahu can give up and no demand that Netanyahu can meet that will create a permanent ceasefire or return all the hostages. From the river to the sea, etc…

Of the 100 or so remaining hostages abducted from Israel October 7th, last year, maybe half (?) or less (?) may actually be alive, and Hamas wants to leverage Israel into what for their return? A few living and most not.

Back in November Taher El-Nounou, a Hamas media adviser, told the New York Times that the goal of October 7 was to create a “permanent war” with Israel to keep the Palestinian agenda on top of mind.

Hamas will never make a deal for a “permanent” ceasefire because it doesn’t want a ceasefire — it wants war. It only wants a ceasefire to regroup and rearm.

Hamas will never return all the hostages without enormous pressure because they’re the only protection they have. Iran wants to destroy Israel whoever is the prime minister, if it’s (former Prime Ministers Naftali) Bennett or Ehud Barak or (Ehud) Olmert or whoever. It doesn’t matter who’s leading Israel, as long as Israel still exists, this doesn’t end.
If Adolph Netanyahu gave a shit about holocostages they,d be home making fart bubbles in their bath tubs.
Adolph Netanyahu, as shitty of a human being as he could possibly be, is in a lose/lose situation on this front regardless of what he would’ve done or didn’t do. Anything that he did or didn’t do would be condemned.
Netanyahu must step down as soon as possible. October 7 happened under his watch. He agreed to the Gilad Shalit deal back in 2011 that sent Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar back into Gaza from Israeli prison.
Netanyahu underestimated Hamas and appears to have believed the lies that they had moderated. It’s also possible or even probable he’s guilty of the fraud charges levied against him, but Israel is in a war right now and he’s their Prime Minister.

Who wrote that love letter?

Would there have been a war if Bibi wasn't facing a minimum of ten years? His record of bullshit speaks volumes about his shit character and integrity.

So, because Bibi probably is involved in fraud (let just assume he’s guilty), that’s why Hamas and Friends sneak attacks Israel on a Israeli holiday, murders 1200+, takes hostage & kidnaps 250+ more from Israel, rapes, etc…all so that Netanyahu doesn’t have to have his day in court? How very graciously accommodating these terrorists are to Bibi. That’s your belief on this?

That Netanyahu is a criminal mastermind puppet master manipulating the entire Middle East from Iran to Hezbollah and Turkey and Syria and Half a dozen other terrorist groups and Yemen and the girl guides and the stone masons guild and so on and so forth, to avoid his day in court?
Who wrote that love letter?
Netanyahu must step down as soon as possible. October 7 happened under his watch. He agreed to the Gilad Shalit deal back in 2011 that sent Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar back into Gaza from Israeli prison.
The 2011 agreement between Israel and Hamas to release Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for 1,027 prisoners — almost all Palestinians and Arab-Israelis, although there were also a Ukrainian, a Jordanian and a Syrian. Of these, 280 had been sentenced to life in prison for planning and perpetrating various attacks against Israeli targets.

Hamas military leader Ahmed Jabari was quoted in the pan-Arab newspaper Al-Hayat as confirming that the prisoners released under the deal were collectively responsible for the killing of 569 Israelis. This deal being authorized by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that also released Yahya Sinwar? This love letter?

How many lives were lost to those 1000+ convicts released in exchange for one Israeli soldier? Authorizing that deal was felony retardly incompetent at best, and treasonous in hindsight, and perhaps Bibi should be hung for that & that alone. That love letter?

If Hamas (& Friends) kill the 40-ish/101 surviving hostages now in Gaza (or smuggled out through Egypt), the value precedent has been set at 1027:1 with Galid Shalit…where as for every murdered hostage, 1027 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons should be thrown back into Gaza from 1/2 a mile away using massive trebuchets with the first one over being Bibi himself as the test pilot. That love letter?

Weird question, but do you also have condemnation for Yahya Sinwar & his Merry pack of mad dogs, or is that just reserved for Netanyahu and the Israelis Jews Zionists? If so, where, ‘cuz I don’t recall seeing that in the last 1/2 year of this ongoing goat rodeo? Bibi is the anti-Christ (or whatever the Jewish equivalent there of?) and Sinwar is justified and exonerated?

No because 1) I doubt there's ever a record of that 2) I doubt Hamas would ever admit it and 3) you expect Hamas to play fair?

I don't, never claimed they would, because they don't give a damn.

Israel is different and there's a reason why so many are against it and pissed off.

If you've been paying attention, you'd know why.

I don’t expect Hamas to play fair, as they’re a terrorist organization/political party that got into political power, murdered all their opposition, then banned elections shortly there after due to a love of the Palestinian people and a sense of fairness & justice. I also expect that they’re above the law (so no need for records) that they’d impose upon their own people (that voted them in before Hamas banned elections) whenever convenient.
Israel is different…
Yes. Israel has elections, 20% of its population are Arab, an LGBTA community, a legal system that holds people accountable including its own PM once they’re not at war, and its citizens have the freedom to protest their own government.

Israel has a defensive system (Iron Dome) and bomb shelters to protect its citizens, an election cycle, and allies who’s only commonality isn’t just religion and a desire to wipe Israel off the map.
…and there's a reason why so many are against it and pissed off.
Yes, because they live in a nation where they can protest their Government without fear of persecution or execution, and a minority of their population is pissed off and can express themselves in peaceful civil disobedience.

Can the Palestinian Arabs in Gaza under Hamas or PLO (whatever the current iteration of it currently running the West Bank is called) say the same of pretty much any of the above? What percentage of their population are Jewish or Israeli or openly gay again?
If you've been paying attention, you'd know why.
Believe it or not…I have, as shown above, & can see the evils in both societies, and if I had to pick one that my children or grandchildren had to live in…I know which one that would be.

Destroyed Their West Bank Village, Israel Forbids Them From Rebuilding It

A Palestinian community abandoned its ancestral village in the South Hebron Hills at the start of the war for fear of settler attacks. An Israeli court decision allowed them to return, but settlers have already destroyed most of their homes. Now the military government won't let them rebuild

Why are you a Zionist? What do you get out of it?

Should Christians take it over and run it as a World Heritage park? God did give the place to Christians after all.
