In an incredibly bizarre outburst in the House of Commons this week, Health Minister Mark Holland described family road trips as if they were a trip to hell.

It all started with Conservative MP Rachael Thomas asking a benign question that should have resulted in a forgettable answer from the government.

Next week the Conservatives have a motion coming forward for a vote to take 35 cents of tax off the price of gas so that Canadians can get a break. Thomas was asking the government if they would support the motion and described why they should.

“Many Canadians just simply look forward to a small summer vacation, a road trip perhaps. It is normally a time when they can camp in the mountains, go to a national park or visit loved ones, but this year, many Canadians cannot afford this simple delight because the government has made life too expensive,” Thomas said.

She then asked whether the Liberal government will vote for the Conservative motion or “force” Canadians to stay home and skip the expensive road trip.

A question like that should have resulted in Holland, or some other minister, standing up and saying that they are concerned about affordability issues and the government working hard to address them. If Holland had done that, no one would have noticed the exchange, instead he had a meltdown like Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation finding out he’s been enrolled in the Jelly of the Month Club.
I’m waiting for the video to come out this weekend.😁

oh, something is out about it:
AS Justin steps off his personal jet that burns oodles of fuel.

Have the Tories proposed any of that in the specific context of paying for the 35-cents-a-jug cut?
With regards to the 35 cent cut, aside from making a motion which they do not expect the Liberals/NDP to back thus killing it, there likely was no purpose other than to score points. This is the job of the opposition. Having a Liberal Cabinet Member go bat shit crazy in response is just a bonus.

Touché!!
According to the report, the research team found that higher numbers of positive experiences in childhood were associated with 72% lower odds of having depression or poor mental health as an adult. Positive experiences were over 3 times more likely to have strong social and emotional support systems in childhood.

How do the Tories propose to make up the lost tax revenue? Run a bigger deficit?
Fair question. The short answer is cut spending. However, there is much more to it. The government is crowing about how they are giving people more in Carbon scam tax rebates than they pay in carbon scam taxes. The rebate is based on your previous year tax return, not how much you may have paid in carbon scam taxes. If this is indeed the case, why collect it in the first place? Other than to employ a few thousand people to administer it? To be clear, I live in BC, and we have our own carbon scam tax, separate from the federal one, so the rebates do not apply to me. We will be dealing with this problem in October.

Id add in those who did some sort of physical work and got an allowance for it or worked part-time as well.

GST on goods and services from inflation has been been a cash cow over the past 4 years. Lowering GST would ecourage more spending.

Now that the shouting is over, you have to ask yourself what was the Trudeau government thinking when it decided to attack the credibility of Parliamentary Budget Officer Yves Giroux on the economic cost of carbon pricing?

As it turns out, the ginned-up controversy started by the Liberals was much ado about nothing, given that they finally acknowledged last week that their own economic data agrees with Giroux’s conclusion that carbon pricing has a negative impact on the Canadian economy.
All the Trudeau government has done, by hysterically criticizing Giroux after he acknowledged an error in his calculations in April on the PBO website with a promise to correct it, is to remind Canadians they are paying more for almost everything because of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax.

The feds have come up with a new tax giveaway scheme. They are calling it automated income tax filing. It seems that people with no taxable income, which I read to be those on disability or welfare, cause even my pension is taxxed, can receive tax refunds, despite not having paid a penny in income tax.

With no taxable income there are no refundable credits on medical and extra household costs.

Is that a good thing in your eyes?

The province causing pain in Ottawa’s side these days isn’t Quebec or Alberta — it’s Saskatchewan, where Premier Scott Moe unilaterally declared his province would not be forced to pay carbon taxes on natural gas. So far, the courts are backing him up. John Gormley, former dean of the province’s talk radio (and former MP), joins Brian Lilley this week to explain how the onetime NDP heartland has turned against the left’s centralized-control agenda, as it fights against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s carbon taxes and censorship policies.
(I haven’t had a chance to listen to this yet myself, but I will, when time permits…)

I am actually looking forward to listening to that podcast tonight before bed if time permits. John Gormley was background in Saskatchewan for a quarter of a century on his talk radio program. Just retired last year…& it’s still weird, not hearing his voice in the background.

Smart guy. Former member of parliament. Former labour lawyer. Talk show host for 25 years.

The Trudeau government will launch a multimillion-dollar advertising campaign in the year ahead of the next election to promote its carbon pricing plan and the rebates it gives to Canadians, the Star has learned.
This of course, won’t be considered election campaigning for the liberals, so won’t come out of the parties pocket, and will be paid for by the taxpayer, maybe even from the carbon tax that’s 100% neutral-ish…death of a thousand cuts style.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is planning a $7-million "climate literacy and action" advertising campaign that would focus on how "carbon pricing reduces emissions and benefits Canadians through the Canada Carbon Rebate," in addition to other actions to combat climate change, according to a copy of the department's advertising plan obtained by the Star through an Access to Information request.

It would mark the latest shift in the way the Trudeau Liberals communicate their flagship climate policy — which makes fossil-fuel products more expensive but encourages consumers to use less of them off with quarterly rebates — in the face of mounting Conservative attacks that label it as a driver of inflation.

The Liberals have long asserted that the rebates send more money to Canadians than the plan costs them. However, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has vowed to "axe the tax" and has called for a "carbon tax election." Combined with the more significant industrial price on pollution, the Liberals' carbon pricing plan is expected to account for a third of Canada's greenhouse gas reductions by 2030, according to government estimates.

In an acknowledgment that the Conservatives have dominated the narrative, the Trudeau government this year rebranded the plan's rebates, forced banks to more clearly label payments and made a push to counter Conservative claims.

But the Liberal government had previously avoided calls urging it to use large paid advertising campaigns to make its case to Canadians.

Running advertisements would be one more way to raise awareness and boost support for the plan, a spokesperson for Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault said, etc…more at the link.

Two big problems there, besides the obvious lie about climate change. If the program is so good, why do they feel obligated to give $7million to their supporter to tell us how getting fucked in the ass is so good for us(without a kiss), and why a rebate instead if just not scamming the tax money in the first place? The whole thing reeks of jobs program for party faithful.

…another $7million… off the top of my head. I think that’s about the dollar figure for the rebranding last year of the carbon tax rebate thing…it’s new name & forcing the bank to list it as such, etc…
