Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stepped in to assist U.S. President Joe Biden after he appeared to wander away during the G7 summit.
The summit, being held in Puglia, Italy, included a performance from the Italian army with parachutes marking the flags of each G7 country.
In footage from the event, Biden is seen wandering away before Meloni notices and quickly pulls the 81-year-old back by the arm to continue watching the spectacle with the rest of the group.
She and the other leaders then gathered around Biden for a photograph.
Video of the encounter shared on social media raised questions and concerns.
“WHAT IS BIDEN DOING?” the Republican National Committee’s RNC Research account on X captioned the video.
National Review writer Dan McLaughlin wrote, “As if Meloni doesn’t have enough on her hands, now she’s stuck playing chaperone to Grandpa Joe.”
Journalist Glenn Greenwald added, “Anyone who denies this is extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing to watch at this point isn’t being honest.”
He continued: “And I don’t understand how Democrats and their pundits believe they can convince Americans it’s not happening. And he wants 4 more years.”
Others at the summit described Biden as “losing focus” during discussions, with one diplomatic insider describing his condition as “the worst he has ever been,” according to the U.K. Sun.
However, U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told reporters that Biden was speaking to the parachutists before being called over to join his fellow leaders.
“He just went over to kind of talk to all of them individually and Georgia (Meloni) was saying ‘Don’t worry, they’re all coming to (us),’” Sunak recounted.
“We were meant to line up so they could come and then shake all our hands.”
Sunak also defended Biden, saying he was “alright” and was “being very polite” to the military members who took part in the demonstration.
White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates also slammed “desperate” media outlets from distracting from Biden’s record.
“Here, they use an artificially narrow frame to hide from viewers that he just saw a skydiving demonstration,” Bates explained. “He’s saying congratulations to one of the divers and giving a thumbs up.”
Biden will miss the third and final day of the G7 summit to headline a star-studded campaign fundraiser hosted by actor George Clooney.
ELDERLY Joe Biden has given his “worst ever” performance at a major international summit, G7 insiders say – after he was bizarrely caught freezing again. Global powerhouse leaders…
