A posting about Gaza on X by the principal of Etobicoke's Martin Grove Junior Middle School has B'nai Brith 'concerned.'
Michael Mostyn, chief executive officer of B’nai Brith Canada, is concerned after an Etobicoke school principal’s alleged X posting advised students that the current attacks on Gaza is “genocide.”

On Oct. 16, Dixon Grove Junior Middle School Principal Ramon San Vicente allegedly wrote on his X account: “As an educator trying to support a safe learning environment, I regularly talk to Ss about the difference between self-defence and assault/aggression. What is happening in Gaza right now is not self-defense. It is genocide. Full stop.”



Mostyn provided a statement to the Sun.

“It is incumbent upon our educators not to disseminate false narratives to their students,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ryan Bird, a spokesperson for the Toronto District School Board, told the Sun: “When comments by staff members are brought to our attention, staff review the matter in line with our policies and procedures to determine whether any breaches have occurred and if any additional steps are required. At this time, we do not have any further information to provide.”

Requests for comment on Tuesday and Wednesday were also sent to San Vicente via his school, but went unanswered, as did a request for comment from Education Minister Stephen Lecce.

San Vicente’s X account describes hime as: “Educator/Activist, Hip Hop as Critical Pedagogy, Principal, Dixon Grove JMS. My tweets are my own.”

In a briefing on Thursday, IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari reiterated that, "the fighting continues," despite the "local tactical pauses."

Israeli officials have repeatedly said Hamas would need to release all of the 240 or so people taken hostage during the group’s attack on Oct. 7 before it would agree to a cease-fire.

A majority of Canadians, 75 per cent, hold Hamas (33 per cent) or Iran (42 per cent) responsible for the Oct. 7 attack in Israel that left 1,400 people dead and led to Hamas capturing some 240 hostages. In response, Israel declared war on Hamas. The Palestinian health ministry, which is part of the Hamas-run government in the Gaza Strip, says some 10,000 Palestinians have been killed so far. That figure has not been independently verified.

Most Canadians (76 per cent) classify Hamas as a terrorist organization and another nine per cent say it is a proxy for Iran. Just eight per cent consider Hamas to be freedom fighters.

Overall, 71 per cent of Canadians support Canada calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, but 81 per cent say that a ceasefire must start with the return of hostages taken by Hamas.

Just 18 per cent of Canadians oppose calls for a ceasefire.

If there is ever a time that calls for clear moral leadership, a moment in which evil acts committed by evil men should be unambiguously denounced, it’s when innocents are targeted by violence, at home and abroad.

Yet this is apparently too much to ask of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whose wishy-washy statements about attacks perpetrated against Canadian Jews and commitment to false equivalencies about the Israel-Hamas War show he is more interested in appeasing certain voting blocs than defending the values he purportedly stands for.

On Thursday morning, bullet holes were found in the doors of two Jewish schools in suburban Montreal. The incidents came two days after the overnight firebombing of a Montreal synagogue and the offices of Federation CJA, a Jewish community organization.

“We condemn this antisemitic violence in the strongest possible terms,” Trudeau said at a press conference later Thursday morning. “This hatred has no place here in Montreal, in Quebec or in Canada.”

He should have left it at that. But Trudeau seems unable to help himself. He continued: “We have to remember who we are. I know emotions are running high — that people are fearful, they’re in mourning. But to attack one another as Canadians, it’s not what we do.”

Is he suggesting that being “in mourning” is a possible justification for what happened? Is this like the “understandable” burning of churches a couple of years back?

A cartoon in the Washington Post’s opinion section has triggered controversy and sparked anger over its “racist” and “orientalist” depiction of Arabs and Palestinians.

Titled, Human Shields, it depicts a man in a dark, striped suit, which has Hamas in bold white letters emblazoned on it, for the Palestinian group, like this:

The man’s eyebrows are arched, his nose is comically large. He has four children strapped to his body, including a baby positioned on his head. A woman – veiled and docile – and meant to represent Palestinian women, cowers behind him, like this:

The man is lifting a finger and the thought cloud above him reads: “How dare Israel attack civilians …”. According to the cartoon, published on November 6, he is Hamas, like this:
The title as well as the depiction of children and a woman tied to him, appear to reference allegations by Israel, which are often repeated by Western leaders and echoed by many mainstream media outlets, that Hamas uses human shields.

Two days after publication, the outrage on social media, as well as the Washington Post’s website was growing. Late on Wednesday, the publication said it had taken down the drawing after it was criticised as racist and dehumanising toward Palestinians.

While I'm disappointed at the decline of the quality of journalism in the Post, it's still pretty even-handed. You can tell because the screams of "Lefty Communist!" and "Rightie Nazi!" are about equal volume.

I’m disappointed with the quality of journalism in general. Even in our regional news, with nothing to do with politics, they often get the f@cts wrong. Basic stuff like the name of a mayor in @ small town. Or how many vehicles were involved in an accident. What little I remember of high school English, journalists were supposed to report the facts. Who, What, Where When. Editorial comment was left to the opinions section.

In a statement to the National Post, a spokesman for the British High Commission in Canada said he could not elaborate on the change in threat level. “The FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office) constantly reviews the threat to British nationals from international terrorism using all of the resources and information available,” he said. “We cannot disclose details of our threat assessments.”

He added: “In regards to Canada, it’s not for the U.K. government to comment upon the Canadian government’s assessment of the threat from terrorism.”

The website includes a link to the government of Canada’s web page for national terrorism threat levels. But that page indicates that the current level is medium, defined as “a violent act of terrorism could occur.”

“Medium” is the middle of five levels. The next highest, “high,” says that a violent act of terrorism “is likely,” while the highest level, “critical,” warns that an act “is highly likely and could occur imminently.” The British warning of “very likely” attacks would seem to fall between these two highest levels.

The Canadian website notes that the terror threat has been at “medium” continuously for almost 10 years, since October of 2014.

Was listening to a report from one of the hospitals. (CBC As it Happens, specifically) During the interview, bombings were going on.

But sure, hospitals are legitimate targets always.
