Big things are just collections of little things. The little things matter. THat's why we have long lived phrases like 'the devil is in the details".

When you only focus on the so called "big picture", it's blurry enough that you miss the facts and the details that expose the flaws. An idea that "looks good" as a big picture often turns out to be completely flawed and useless once you look at the details.

Hold cops accountable = big picture, good idea

Do so by allowing criminals to rate the police and then fire them based on whether or not the criminals they arrest liked the 'service' they got = imporant detail, horrible idea.

Details are everything.
Should we stop reviewing Drs because someone was upset they didn't get there morphine Rx refilled 5 days early? Do you still go to a restaurant if someone says there was water spots on a dessert spoon even though you know the food is exceptional the restaurant extra clean and highly rated by 99% of the reviews?

We don't do that now. There's no system whereby everyone submits their reviews and we decide to keep or fire a doctor based on that feedback. If you have a problem with a doctor you can file a complaint but otherwise we don't 'review' doctors now.

So it's pretty hard to stop something we didn't start. And there's a reason we didn't start it.

Also if they didn't get their morphine refilled then that would be the pharmacists fault not the doctor.

It's just not an effective way of evaluating the performance of a professional by and large. When it comes to professional services the vast majority of people who have a good experience won't take the time to fill out a review and the ones who have had a negative perception of their experience will write a nasty one, even if the service they got was appropriate but they just didn't like that it happened. A cop arrests someone who doesn't think they should have been charged and they write a bad review of the cop, even if in reality they SHOULD have been charged and the cop did his job.

The problem you're trying to fix is real, but the method to fix it you're proposing is completely unworkable.

Changing your Dr because of bad reviews IS firing your Dr. Choosing a Dr based on good reviews IS hiring a Dr.
Most people these days are just happy to have the doctor they have. It's a real bitch to get a new one to take you. My doc seems to me to push certain meds. I figure they get a cut of the action.
I have had very little interaction with cops, but when I have I do get the feeling that they have an air of superiority about them, so take them with a grain of salt. Those Memphis cops were way over the line and should be dealt with.

Read the reviews of Drs and clinics on Google sometime. The huge majority are petty. I've read them for mine. Shit like waiting or not getting an antibiotic on demand for a viral infection, reception was mean to me etc.

Ever been on a ride along with cops? If no, go for it. It's eye-opening.

I ended up in midst of the 94 riot and yes people planned to riot and loot. We saw a young gal almost get decapitated looting the Sony Store when a massive smashed sheet of glass slid down the frame at the moment she stuck her head in to grab a Walkman CD player.
Karma.

No, the doctor is still 'hired' and performing their duties. You just chose a different one to do business with. If you usually shop at one store and decide to go to a different store you woudnt' say the first store got 'fired'.

This is really starting to get silly.

A Dr is a business. Do you chose a mechanic at random or find one based on reputation? What happens to shops with bad reputations? They close.

If a cop has bad reputation do you keep them on patrol or stick them on traffic?

Actually, here in Ont a doctor won't take you as a patient until your old doctor sends all your records to them. At least that is what happened when we moved and had to find a new one.

Ask for your file before you move. It's yours, not your Dr's. These days its digital and accessible online.

Yes, I know that...... after we moved we had to find a doctor here that had openings. That took a couple of years. We travelled 100 miles back and forth to see the old doc. Then the files were transfered.

If you had to wait 5 years to get a mechanic and they were the only one available, i doubt you'd even bother to look. You'll take what you can get. For many in most provinces that's the way it is with doctors. So nobody is looking up recommendations at that point.

To your point tho, sure if there's a bunch of businesses around you might well see if you can find which one has the best prices or the like. But ... police aren't a 'business'. Are they.

Further, you're talking about firing individual police, not choosing which police force to deal with based on google reviews.

And that's what we were discussing. So while i appreciate your desire to sidestep the issue by trying to change the channel, i'm afraid it's still grossly unworkable to hire and fire police based on public opinion polls. You would have to find another way to address the issue.

New Netflix Series On Tyre Nichols Beating To Feature White Officers

LOS GATOS, CA — Netflix announced they have acquired the rights to tell the tragic story of Tyre Nichols' death at the hands of 5 black police officers. Leadership at the streaming giant confirmed the police officers will be portrayed by white actors.

"While we know the 5 officers who killed Nichols were factually black, it is also clear that they were morally white," said Netflix VP of Inclusion Vernā Myers. "Since TV is a visual medium, we want to convey to the viewer that these officers had the invisible specter of white supremacy flowing through their veins."

According to sources, the five officers guilty of the brutal beating will be played by unknown actors Wyatt Smith, Scott Peasley, Benedict Higgins, Steve O'Murphy, and Karen McMinnahan. The rest of the 283-person cast will be filled by people of color to fulfill diversity requirements.

Showrunner Nina Myers, a trans woman of color who has never directed a film before, vowed to bring the story to life in a way that modern audiences will connect with. "We vow to do this story justice... social justice," she said. "Now more than ever, viewers need to be reminded that whiteness is to blame for everything bad in the world. They then need to be beaten over the head with that message over and over again until they finally admit they're upholding a racist system. That's the very purpose of television entertainment."

At publishing time, the 5 white actors had been canceled for taking acting jobs away from people of color.
